Keeping older Adobe Software

Hi everyone,

I have a whole lot of old Adobe Software when they used to be on CD and DVDs. Examples are:

Adobe Illustrator 8.0 and 10

Adobe Photoshop 5.0, 6.0, 7.0

Adobe Indesign CS3

Adobe Dimensions 3.0

Adobe Streamline 4.0

Adobe PageMaker 6.5

Adobe Create Suite 6 Master Collection

Now that Adobe only offers online subscriptions I wondered if it was necessary to keep any of these older versions. I assume that they wouldn't be compatible with newer operating systems as time passes and therefore the software wouldn't be worth holding onto.

I just wondered if anyone had any advice on this, ie. does anyone keep older software these days?

A lot of them already are. That said, as long as there's even a slight chance I might have a computer near me that would be able to at least one of those versions, I keep them around. Funny enough this even comes in handy when people ask me to verify and convert older files for them, since this could be a problem just as well in some programs...

Surely discontinued software such as Streamline and PageMaker wouldn't be compatible with the latest version of Mac OS? I probably should keep a lot of them though - I'm just trying to simplify everything. Do you think that really old versions of Photoshop like 5, 6 and 7 would be compatible with Mac OS in say 5 years time?

They aren’t compatible Today. No Mac software made before 2006 (when Intel Macs were launched) can run on any Mac OS later than 10.7. Brings us up to CS2.  And that’s just a block on all software; Mac OS (not Macs) Break many other apps. Soon no 32.Bit software will run.

Most of this forum's regular posters are long time users, and have licenses for Adobe products going back years.  It does seem a bit of a waste, because something like Photoshop CS6 is still a very capable product, but mine — along with many other older Adobe apps — is likely to be never used again.   It might be useful to install a pre CC2014 32 bit version of Photoshop to be able to run older plugins.  I'd love to have access to the Kai Power Tools for instance, and I used to love Auto fx Mystical Lighting.
