Line weight getting reduced after clicking Ctrl while using the Pen tool

I am tring to create a shape using the Pen tool. I want to create a path but have the settings set to Shape (the shape's disapperaing in JPG when Path is selected). But after I click Ctrl to finish the path, the lineweight is getting reduced. I am not able to figure out why this is happening. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Could you please post a screenshot taken at View > 100% with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Paths, Properties, Options Bar, …) visible?
