Mouse stuttering in Photoshop and Illustrator

Explorer ,
Mar 05, 2021 Mar 05, 2021

Hello,

I'm having hard time using Photoshop and Illustrator after latest update. I also tried to rollback to a previous version of Photoshop with no luck, the problem persist.

First my pc spec:

- Intel Core i9-10900KF

- 64 gb ram 3200 mhz

- Gpu rtx 3090

- windows 10

When i open the softwares and I make a little change or even zoom with mouse wheel the mouse stutter for few seconds, then it is smooth again. Considering that it's happening continuously it's almost impossible to have a nice workflow.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Hey PJ, the solution that you suggested worked combined with this other piece

  • Turn off G-SYNC for Photoshop, specifically by going into Nvidia Control Panel > 3D Settings > Manage 3D Settings. Click the Program Settings tab, select Photoshop from the dropdown menu, scroll down to Monitor technology, set it to Fixed Refresh, and click apply. To learn more, see Nvidia G-SYNC.

Anyway thank you for pointing me to the right direction!

Hi there,

Sorry that Zoom tool in Photoshop is not working as your mouse keeps stuttering.

Which exact verison of Photoshop are you using?

If a tool in Photoshop isn't working properly (for example, the crop tool crops a tiny little gray square, or painting with a brush paints the wrong color or nothing at all), try resetting the tool settings:

  • Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac OS) the Tool Preset Picker in the Tool options bar and choose Reset Tool to reset the active tool, or choose Reset All Tools to reset all tools to their factory default settings.

Also, would you mind restoring the preferences for Photoshop & see if it helps? See this article for reference: https://t.co/ulJI7cGn1G You may want to backup your settings beforehand: https://t.co/4dX7gkr36D

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Akash

Hello Akash, thank you for your answer. Is not the zoom tool that is not working properly.

Actually I'm using the version 22.0.0 of Photoshop. Anything I do create that stuttering issue.

For example, if I deactivate a layer visibility and reactivate it and move the mouse on the interface, the mouse will stutter for a few second, then it will become smooth.

Do you have a G-Sync monitor?

Not sure if you solved this already, but I was having the same issue with a G-Sync monitor. Found this article from Adobe (Last updated Dec. 31, 2021) Known Issueshttps://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/known-issues.html

This finally solved the issue for me. Hope it does for you too!

Go to Preferences > Technology Previews and enable Deactivate Native Canvas.

Restart Photoshop.

Good luck!

Hello PJ,

yes I do have a G-sync monitor. I will check your suggestion when I'm home. The strange thing is that it seems to me it's also depending on the resolution and not only on the monitor.

I have 2 monitors at home, a 2560x1440 and a 3440x1440, and I only have the problem on the bigger one.

At the office, also 2 monitors both 2560x1440 and I have no problem at all. And all these monitors are g-sync compatible and activated.

But I will try your solution and let you know!

In the meanwhile thanks a lot 🙂
