MacOS Sonoma v14.5. I had Photosop v23, v24, and v25 all working, but mainly used v23. The main reason I did not follow the latest version upgrade path was my actions were in v23. Yeah, I could have saved them all as a set, and imported them into the newer version, but I hadn't got to it. At some point adobe decided to toss my photoshop v23, v24, some plugins from both, and my actions from v23 - importing instead the few v24 actions I had wrtten. What would it have hurt to leave the actions in their respective folders? You left some of the plugins there so I could repair the meddling you did. This really [removed by moderator] me off. A lot of time went into those actions, and they only take up a few Kb of space. Now I can't launch Photoshop v23 to retrieve them, and following all the online compliants that date back many years leads to only out of date info. Do a search on "missing actions" in this community help area (2000 hits). That should give Adobe a clue about not [removed by moderator] with peoples actions. I guess I'll have to write them again. Grrrrr

Stephen, Thanks for responding to my rant. I wrote the same answer you just gave in sentence #3. My point is this: Adobe has no reason to throw away user created actions. They are located in a dead nested folder for the specific application. I.E. Applications\Adobe Photoshop 2023\Presets\Actions They left the Plugin folder in that same deadend application folder? The upgraded version of Photoshop is going to refer to it's own specific application folder Applications\Adobe Photoshop 2025\Presets\Actions So it will have no effect on the upgraded version of the application. Additionally, it is something created by the user - so why would Adobe throw it out when leaving it intact would cause no harm? I can tell you that the way this was done will upset some users.

Loaded .atn files or newly created and unsaved action sets are temporarily stored in the Actions Palette presets file (Actions Palette.psp). This file should be considered temporary and may be subject to corruption or loss, which is why making an explicit save to .atn file for each individual action set is strongly advised.

The Actions Palette.psp file can often be used to migrate the entire panel/palette or to possibly retrieve unsaved actions. This is by no means a replacement for saving each Action Set as an individual .atn file. The location of the Actions Palette.psp file can be found in locations similar to:

Mac:

  • /Users/username/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CC 2022 Settings⁩/Actions Palette.psp

Win:
  • C:\Users\username\appData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2022\Adobe Photoshop 2022 Settings\Actions Palette.psp

(Replace “username” with your user account name and also replace 2022 with your version name/number. The Windows appData or Mac Library directory may be hidden. You can search the web for how to make hidden folders visible for your OS if this is the case).
