My photoshop won't open my files (version 2024)

Community Beginner ,

Every time I try to open a Photoshop file, I get the error message "Photoshop cannot open this file due to a system error".
I've probably discovered one of the causes. But I don't know how to fix it. When I go to my list of applications, Adobe Photoshop 2021 always appears in addition to Adobe Photoshop 2024. I can't figure out why this version of Photoshop is there when my hard disk is empty. It was installed at the same time as version 2024.

If someone have an idea for solving this issue, let me know !

Hi @Emma_frl check your Creative Cloud desktop app/Apps tab - do you see two versions of PS listed? If so you can unisntall 2021 using the ellipses ... icon to the right.

No there is only one in the creative desktop app. But apparently the problem come from the preferences. Because when the bug appears (I mean each time I open photoshop) I can delete the preferences of my photoshop and the bug is gone (but come back).

@kyle5C33 First try resetting your PS preferences:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#reset-preferences

If that doesn't work, uninstall and then reinstall your Photoshop application using the Creative Cloud Desktop app.

@Emma_frl go to the Photoshop.exe app - shift+Right-click and choose "Run as Administrator" - do you have the same issues?

None of these work other than uninstalling and adding an older version.

When is Adobe gonna stop releasing buggy updates that are a constant pain in their user's experience. It is super frustrating and overly time consuming to fix.

I don't work for Adobe, so I don't know about their plans. I personally haven't had an issue with saving files, so the issue you're having may be due to something else--such as the installation.

So, if you're still having trouble, you've tried all of the solutions in this article, and they don't help, then you might try uninstalling Photopshop and using the Creative Cloud Cleaner tool before reinstalling:

@kyle5C33 something else must be going on. Go to Photoshop Help Menu/System Info and copy/paste details in a reply. Post only once as the system takes time to process the large amount of data.

I tried one last time of uninstalling and re-installing, and then again resetting the preferences, and run as administrator and now it is working. I will update if it starts acting up again.
