New document creating too large a file/artboard size

When I do File- New Document and set my pixel size the artboard that generates is much larger than I set, which makes the size of fonts really off, as well as longer load time when editing. (A file that isn't very large is now at 33% and fills the window where I should have to zoom in to fill the window)

It is also making the exported file size far too large - for example, a 2048 x 2048 px at 72ppi came out to 1.4 MB.

How do I get it back to creating the correct pixel size for new documents?

Also now when I open a JPG or PNG it is placing it in the middle of an enormous artboard that was not a part of the original file.

Many times when users report this, they have accidentally used inches or cm instead of pixels. Can you double-check that these are both in pixels as you intended?

  • 2048 x 2048 px
  • 72ppi

If this isn't it, can you show a screenshot?
