New Gradient Tools incredibly slow

New gradient tool is extremely slow at higher resolutions, to the point it's unusable. Is there a way to revert to the old style gradients? They had no realtime preview and thus no performance issues.

In the option bar for the gradient tool choose 'Classic Gradient'
