Is it possible to import the coordinates of the the focus area of an image from a Nikon D3 NEF?

Is focus area stored as an EXIF property?

Yes, it is in the EXIF information. I am working with the Nikon D3.

Any suggestions on how to access the exif data and then convert the focus area into xy coordinates?

I just checked with an nef from my D90. Load an image into PS (via ACR). Go to the Advanced (or RawData() tab in the File Info dialog.

It does not appear that Adobe is passing that through.

If you need that data, you may have to call exiftool to get at it. And it may take a bit of work to make sense out of what exiftool reports back.
