New Thumbnail Mask problem

In the latest PS 25.1 release on W10 my mask thumbnails now have a square in the lower right corner that appears to have no apparent function but blocks my view of the mask.

How can I get rid if this useless feature?

Hi @HCEALPHCEALP, thanks for posting. Yes, others (including me) have asked about the reasoning behind the new icon on the layer mask, and there is a thread about it here. Feel free to give it an upvote:

There isn't a fix yet, other than to revert to a previous version. Note, a moderator may merge your post into that one.
