I just downloaded NIK software's new version from DXO, I previously had "nikcollection-full-1.2.11" version. I also took Photoshop CC update(version 19.1.3). After doing these two things my when I opened Photoshop I noticed that my Nik Software still shows in my Filters list but is grayed out.I also tried opening with Automate but it gives me an error message I tried uninstalling & reinstalling. But it did not work.
Actually i don't believe DXO has released a new version yet, your just downloading the same version you already had, except from DXO instead of Nik.
Anyhow, what is the Color Mode and Bit Depth of your document?
Image>Mode
Try an image that is RGB Color and 8 or 16 bits/channel.

Yes, I had the same issue when I try to process B&W photos.
My B&W image opened in PS 24, defaulted to grayscale, so, my Nik Plugin grayed out...
Then, I tried uninstalled, re-installing ... still not working !!! Thank goodness, I read your reply......
Once I changed the color mode to RGB, it works fine. Thanks for reminding me.

I had a similar issue a while back when I updated Photoshop and Nik Software. What worked for me was completely uninstalling the Nik Collection, then reinstalling the latest version from DXO's website.

This is from 2018 and the issue is by now solved (and DXO has released multiple versions of that nice software by now). Locking this thread.
