Nikon z8 raw stopped being recognized

Nikon Z8 raw files which I have been editing on my macbook suddenly stopped being recognized in bridge or photoshop.. some of the images are months old and have been recognized all along. Until suddenly in the middle of an edit.

After updating camera raw all started to work again. Puzxling why the previous version worked for four months and stopped suddenly.........
