No longer able to open Raw files (NEF or RW2)

Feb 28, 2024 Feb 28, 2024

Been at this past week with no troubles at all.

Now all of a sudden Photoshop V25.5 refuses to open NEF or RW2 raw files. Regardless of whether I'm trying from Bridge 11.1.3.200 or dragging in the file or using the Open dialog.

Trying to do anything like that causes it to just freeze.

Possibly related? Spent most of yesterday playing with its generative fill AI and I'd left a file open all night that was a big enough one.

My other versions of photoshop weren't behaving either so I removed them all and reinstalled the latest one. Also updated whatever I could and still can't get anywhere.

Any suggestions??

btw, using Windows 11 a machine that's powerful enough.

After hours dealing with this nonsense. The solution was to reset Camera Raw Preferences.

For anyone else unfamiliar: Edit / Preferences and hit Ctrl (in windows) as you click on Camera Raw

Hey Adobe! You still suck!

Here I go again with this nonsense.

Will I ever be at peace in my dealings with Adobe products?

No reason why I, or anyone else, should have suffer through this sort of crap repeatedly.

Hi @arnav_5943, Have you tried the recommended workflow from this post?

1. Try resetting Camera Raw Preferences: Edit / Preferences and hit Ctrl (in Windows) as you click on Camera Raw

2. Update your Camera Raw Plugin: Help / Updates / Check for available updates and install the latest version of Camera Raw.

3. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the Camera Raw plugin through the Adobe application manager.

If none of these resolve the issue you are experiencing, can you please send us some more information about your system setup, what version of Photoshop you are using, and the steps you've taken to import NEF files in Photoshop. Thanks! ^CH

LATEST

What do you mean "As you click on Camera Raw?"  I cannot open photos once I open them into Photoshop (they open in Camera Raw first.)  This just started today.  I have the latest update of camera raw.  Thanks.
