I am a photo editor. I purchased a photo from AP today. When I attempt to open it, I get this message:

"This file contains file info data which cannot be read and has been ignored."
There is no metadata in the image when i view the file info.

What is happening? I have not had this problem in a while.

I get the message too, however, there is the expected metadata in there in Photoshop's File Info when I open it in v2021 (Basic, Origin, IPTC and IPTC Extension, Audio Data). Perhaps try Adobe Bridge as well as Photoshop.

Here is an ExifTool dump of what it found, which can be more extensive than what Photoshop may list:

I know the metadata is there, I can see it in Lightroom and Bridge. why can't Photoshop 2025 see the metadata?

I am still using v2021 and v2024, I have not yet joined the cutting (bleeding) edge of v2025.

So when you wrote, "There is no metadata in the image when i view the file info." I didn't see the same issue in Photoshop. Now it appears to be a possible version-specific which wasn't clear until you mentioned v2025.

What version of Bridge? I would expect that Bridge 2025 would use the same File Info code as Photoshop 2025.

Thank you. i had been using an older version of Photoshop and decided to tidy up and update my apps. Now my old app is gone!

@maggies

So, again I ask, what version of Bridge shows the metadata when Photoshop 2025 doesn't?

There is a setting when updating in the CC app to remove old versions or not.

As Adobe only offer download availability 1 version back from the current release, this is important if you wish to keep old versions for compatibility, testing or other purposes.
