No Undo

I've had CS5 since around when it first came out and this is the second time I've gotten a project requiring me to get deep into Photoshop. It has been quite frustrating this time as I am finding bugs (in InDesign too but I already posted about that).

What I am finding now is that Undo is not working. Almost everything I do it either won't Undo when I choose undo from the menu or press command-x  OR the menu simply says "can't undo". Now, I can go into the History palette but the quick way of command-x is my routine and is much faster.

Things I have tried to undo but can't:

- crop an image

- add a type layer

- fill with a pattern

- add an adjustment layer

...to name a few off the top of my head.

Are you manually changing the zoom level at any point? In particular, are you entering a new zoom value in the lower left corner of the image window? One person reported this as a way to trigger the problem, and I am able to reproduce this myself. Let me know if this is the case for you as well.

Hi, I was meaning CS5 as a whole. There are several bugs I've reported for InDesign and Illustrator as well that haven't been fixed either, so top that off with the PS bugs and I pretty much can't sell my boss on upgrading.

An update: my reply after filing a case report was basically "upgrade to CS5.5 to have the bug fixed".

Ya right.

Which bug did you file a case report for that was fixed in CS5.5? Is this in Photoshop, or one of the other applications?

Hi, I reported several bugs in Photoshop and InDesign. The only reply I got when submitting Adobe Cases is for a bug in InDesign that causes a crash. Their reply has been "upgrade to CS5.5" and that it is fixed in CS5.5. I got no reply for the other bugs I reported other than in these forums and the only reply from someone actually from Adobe has been you. I believe somebody wrote further back in this thread that the "Undo" bug is fixed in Photoshop CS5.5.

There is no Photoshop CS5.5: http://phtshp.us/5_5_Faq

The version of Photoshop CS5 that comes with CS5.5 is identical to the version of Photoshop CS5 that comes with CS5 in terms of included bug fixes.

Just telling you what I read but thanks for setting the record straight. Is there any difference in Illustrator too? I guess I'm just wondering what the $299 upgrade from CS5 Standard to CS5.5 is actually for.

Illustrator is the in a similar position to Photoshop. Just added support for subscriptions.

InDesign added some tablet/mobile publishing features.

So if you don't use InDesign and aren't interested in it's new features, you're probably good with what you have.

I thought so... except that they appear to be rolling new bug fixes into CS5.5 and not CS5... so InDesign, which I use a lot, has the bug fix I requested in CS5.5

That could be. I'm can't speak for other teams - just Photoshop. Sorry.

Jeff beat me to it, but that's why I was asking -- you should have the same bug fixes in Photoshop 12.0.4 and 12.1.

Like Jeff, I can only speak for Photoshop. Since this is the Photoshop forum, you might try asking questions about the other products in those forums (if you haven't already).

Thanks. I already have asked in the other forums and only got an actual Adobe Case about my InDesign problem. As stated above, their "answer" was to purchase the upgrade to CS5.5

I'd just like to point out that the bug STILL exists in Photoshop 12.1
