Opening files from gallery view

Since the upgrade to PS v24.0 i cannot open files from Finder Gallery view or Columns view by dragging them down onto the Photoshop icon on the dock - it throws up an error telling me that the file is locked (it isn't) so needs to be unlocked or duplicated. Format isn't a factor as it happens with .ARW, .PSD, .JPG etc.

The images will open if I go through the File>open dialogue in Photoshop.

It's not a major disaster, but is annoying when trawling through hundreds of images as I have to note down their filenames and then find them again to open end edit.

I cannot reproduce with macOS 12.x or 13.x with files from the desktop from a finder window set to column view. What version of macOS? Are the files on the local hard drive, and external drive, or a server?

I'm on a Mac Studio running macOS 12.2

The files are on a network drive, so to tried copying a few onto my desktop and they will open fine from the gallery view. So it looks like a network/remote file issue rather than a PS issue.
