Hi,

I think I don't understand how to select an element from a layer, and extract it to another one. Here's the context :

I'm folowing a tutorial to create à cyborg face, the main thing is to create a kind of underskin feeling by creating paths with the pen tool, and "fill" them with a texture. What I'm trying to do is to select a piece of the cheek, move it a bit to the side, and put another image "under" it.

Layer 1 : transparent backgound

Layer 2 : face picture

Layer 3 : selected cheek

On the layer 2, I create a path, then CMD + Enter to make a selection, then CMD + J to create a new layer from the selection. After that, when I deselect the layer 3, I'm not seeing the transparent background from layer 1. It seems to me that I made a copy of the selection, and not a cut of the selection, I think that's why I can't see the transparent backgound.

I tried to make the same thing but with a basic shape (pen tool -> shape) and then make a selection to another layer and I have the same result. It seems easy but I think I'm missing a point 😞

I'm using photoshop 24.0.0 (offcial version)

Thanks for the reading.

Cmd+J makes a copy not a cut and create new layer. Shift+Cmd+J cuts the selection and makes a new layer.
