Performance problems in Photoshop 25.1 / MacOS Sonoma

Explorer ,
Nov 07, 2023 Nov 07, 2023

Hey there,

I am experiencing very significant performance issues with Photoshop already in an empty document. "Animated Zoom" is very laggy and dragging layers in the layer editor also are very delayed and laggy.

Maybe someone else is experiencing same issues?

My current system in following:

MacPro 2019 / Xeon 28Core 2,5Ghz / 256 GB RAM / Radeon Pro Vega II 32 GB / Photoshop is on 25.1. / MacOS Sonoma 14.1

Thanks for checking.

How much RAM and spare hard disk capacity do you have?

Have you tried resetting the Photoshop preferences back to the factory defaults?

Okay, so since I could not find any solution and working with this version is seriously painful, I had to swtich to PS Beta.
I made a quick screencap and I hope you can see the laggy performance. It is ridiculously laggy compared to the Beta.

Dragging in the layer editor is laggy

Dragging objects in viewport is laggy

Writing text is laggy

Zooming in or out is laggy. And there are way more things that are laggy too.

I just can't work with this version.
But please see and try for yourself. I'd appreciate any reaction from Adobe.

Thanks.

Hey all,

since no one ever replied here: this is still current. Photoshop 2024 (25.4.0) is not usable for me. Everything is lagging. Empty documents, dragging layers, or scrolling through color swatches - it is ridicolously lagging. Only the Beta seems very fluent and my only way to get work done. How is this possible?
Any help or comment from dev-side is welcome.

Thx

Hey Derek,

indeed haven't tried reseting the preferences. I can do that. Regarding RAM and HD capacity - it's sufficient. My tech specs are in the first comment here. But since the Beta of photoshop is working properly, I would assume that my specs should be fine?

"Sufficient" seems vague – do you really have 256GB of RAM?

Beside that I know what the specs are: Yes. Please see the attached screenshot. Have you seen the video in the former posts here? That demonstrates (hopefully) whats going on.

I can't translate rasterised text but that looks like 256GB of storage.

I reiterate, please establish how much RAM and SPARE hard disk (storage) capacity you have.

Really? I seriously can differentiate between my harddisk and my RAM. But anyway, it says 256GB 2993 MHZ DDR4 - and that is my RAM - what else should it be? And I have 380 GB of 1TB free disk space on my main hard drive and half of another TB hard drive. So please - with all respect - don't question my knowledge anymore in distinguishing a hard drive from RAM. Thank you - let's try to stay focused here. And like I said - it all works fine in Photoshop Beta!

Hey Derek,

just a quick reply from my side. I resetted the preferences and this seems to fix the performance problems. So for now this helped me. Thank you.
