Photo merge problem

I have been using PS photomerge both from inside Adobe Bridge as well as from within PS. After upgrading to 2021 the command on both return an error: IOError File or Folder does not exist. I get the same problem when I want to create a stack from open files within PS. I'm using Mac OS Big Sur. I'm sure there must be a quick fix to this.

Are the files on your desktop or documents folder on your internal hard drive? External drive or server? Do you have disk access granted in your System Preferences?

The files are on my external drive and yes, I have access. It was working perfectly until recently. Also  cannot get the render light to preview anymore. It's not serious at the moment but I would like to get my PS back to what I'm used to.
