After updating to version 2021 Photoshop won't start anymore with older cpu's not supporting SSE4.2.
Error message at startup: "Error at loading of ippCV library."
Manual copy of IPPCV7 DLL's to PS fixes the startup issue, but PS is not usable properly anymore - so this is not a practicable way.
Does PS 2021 really forces me to buy new hardware or am I stuck on the older version?
My computer has worked great with photoshop until now.

Hi
There's a big long thread about that here

Hi Ged,
yes I know, but there's no solution provided yet.
And fallback to an older version is not a permanent solution.
Just like buying new hardware - by force - although it worked all the time.
So the solution could be:
Disable AI Neuronal Filters for older CPU's and make PS 2021 work for them again.
Thanks and kind regards
Markus

There is a solution mentioned in the thread, if you scroll down you'll see it

As far as I could see Jeffrey only give the advice to downgrade to an older version.
But this cannot be a solution in the long run.
PS 2020 still works fine with my hardware, so why should I have to buy new one even if I'm not using the new AI stuff?
It should be possible to disable the AI functionality running on an older cpu.

Even the potential solution of shad0w will not work at least.
PS 2021 start with it... ok. But it's not usable anymore und extremely slow.

Buy a new one? Are you not on a subscription plan? All the Adobe apps are subscription based, so you wouldn't be buying a new one. If PS 2020 is still working for you, then keep working with 2020. Because downgrading from 2021 would bring you back to the 2020 version. I'm mildly confused by your response

Dave, I meant that I have to buy a new computer for PS 2021 because the CPU is no longer supported. And of course I'm on a subscription plan and user of creative cloud. And for this very reason i would expect that an update would not force me to buy a new computer, even though everything has worked so far.

Then don't update. Keep using 2020.

Absolutely sad for a paid subscription model.

Of course, I've tried this.
But unfortunately PS does not work reliably with this patch.

Unfortunately this is utter non-sense on Adobe's part. They can easily modify the latest versions of PS to work with earlier SSE versions. No one needs those AI features or updates that maybe irrelevent for most. Adobe makes decisions by themselfs and they end up excluding their customers. I'll be looking at other alternatives, I see Pixelmator is in a lot ways better and it doesnt reachout monthly to anyone pocket for money.
