Photoshop 2022 Version 23.3.2 Freezes on opening

Hello
I have used Photoshop for close to 20 years now, but lately (actually the last few years) I have experienced several bug. The latest is the worst, the 23.3.2 update.
This is my computer specs:

Win 11 Pro (updated)

Intel Xenon E-2278G CPU

64 G RAM

Nvidia Quadro RTX 4000

After installing the latest PS verson, 23.3.2 PS just freezez after it has loaded. My Wacom tablet is updated, and so are my graphic card. I have also tried your fixes (uninstall Plug in modules etc.). But this does not fix the problem.

Hi @SveinT, sorry you are seeing these freeze issues. Does this happen if the Wacom tablet is not connected? It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Thanks for the fast reply. I just disconnected my Wacom, but unfortunately that did not help. And since Photoshop freezes just after it has loaded there is no way I can "reach" the system info. I have however installed an older version 22.0.0

Hi Cory
I tried to send you the info as you asked for, but it's only the System Info for the 22.0.0 version of PS that appears in this thread. I was able to get the System Info for 23.3.2 version before PS froze and I pasted it in a reply to you. Not sure what has happened but it does not appear here now. Did you recieve it? Please advise.

Ok, Adobe
Since I never heard back from you, I found out about the issue myself.
I had to check the "Use Graphic Processor" box (Edit/Performance/Preferences), and PS does not freeze anymore.
The problem now is that when the Use Graphic Processor-box is checked, PS keeps flashing bright white!?
Ergo: One issue solved, another gained. Like I said; there are so many issues ...

@SveinT , card looks good, driver looks good, pretty basic installation setup, so kind of a head scratcher. Crashing on launch makes me think that there could be a problem either loading preferences, or, longer shot, some of the underlying cloud libraries running as part of the CC desktop app are hosed.

Since tackling the CC Desktop problem is a bigger deal, could you try:

1. resetting your preferences to see if the crashing stops? Does it happen if you just try to open a new document, or does a certain file trigger it? If that doesn't work, then:

2. Turn off 'GPU Compositing' in Photoshop Preferences > Performance > Advanced Settings and try things out. If that doesn't work, then:

3. Click the 'Deactivate Native Canvas' in the Preferences > Performance pane of the Photoshop preferences, then try it out for stability

If we have to deal with the Creative Cloud processes, that would be more work, but I'd like to eliminate Photoshop-stand alone issues before trying that.

I have also been scratching my head over this. The funny thing is that sometimes I am able to load a psd. file but then PS freezes after a while or start randomly flashing white(!).

This issue happen when I start a New Document, or an existing psd. file I have been working on , or just a regular jpg.

I have now tried your first suggestion ( I could not find “Deactivate Native Canvas” where you described it), to reset the preferences. So far so good! I must do more testing, but I can now open files, create files, and the strange white flashing is gone too.

I’ll do a bit more testing and let you know how it goes.

Reseting the preferences could be a fix for others as well.
