Photoshop 2022 will not open unless run with admin rights on Windows 10

I have photoshop 2022 installed in my system. It will not run from the CC app. It will not run from the desktop icon. It will not run unless with admin rights. Running AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT with latest drivers. (I updated before contacting support). Ryzen 7 1700x and 32GB of ram. Photoshop version is 23.4.1

I spoke with support and they're saying I need to run it with admin rights since photoshop requires access to specific folders in my computer.

I know I created a symbolic link for my %appdata% folder and my program files folders because my C: has very limited space.

One of their solutions says I need to grant photoshop access to specific folders. Any tips how to do that in windows 10?

Thanks

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. We are here to help.

While it could be a permissions issue with Photoshop accessing the required folder, do you have to run Photoshop from a different Admin account, or do you refer to the right click & 'Run as Administrator' process?

If it is the latter, please try the following and let us know if it helps.

  • In the Creative Cloud app, press CTRL + ALT + T to launch Creative Cloud Troubleshooter & select 'Close Creative Cloud and related processes' > click on Go.
  • Go to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2022
  • Right-click on Photoshop.exe > Properties > Compatibility > Change Settings for all users > Check 'Run this program as an administraor'

SameerK_0-1655990572760.png

  • Click on OK & Apply to save the changes.
  • Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Creative Cloud\ACC
  • Right-click on Creative Cloud.exe > Properties > Compatibility > Change Settings for all users > Check 'Run this program as an administrator'
  • Click on OK & Apply to save the changes.
  • Restart the computer.

Let us know if this helps,
Thanks!

Hi Sameer!

Thanks for the reply. It works if I rung it like that, but the side-effects of running with admin rights is I cannot click and drag items into photoshop. I would like to avoid that if at all possible. It worked before for previous versions.

It works properly with other accounts on this computer. So I'd like to know how to grant photoshop access to the required folders in order for it to run properly please.

Thank you

Giving permissions to folders on Windows has more than one way. I can share the simple one & if this does not work, reaching out to Microsoft Support would be the go-to solution for fixing user account permissions.

1) Right-click on the folders shared above and go to Properties

2) On the Security tab, click Edit to change the permissions

3) Select the admin user in the Group or User Names section

4) Put a checkmark on Allow full control

5) Allow full control to other users and accounts on PC as well and Click Apply and then OK

We hope this helps,

Thanks!

I installed Photoshop 2022 to design photos for the site [weblink removed by moderator as per forum guidelines] and I had exactly the same problem, and I only run the software from the admin section, and according to my studies, there is the same solution.

Do you have issues with clicking and dragging images into photoshop? I'm having that effect when running with admin rights
