Photoshop 21.0.3:SaveForWeb:"CouldNotCompleteThisOperation.AnUnknownErrorHasOccurred" on Mac 10.15.2

Save For Web is currently broken and seriously slowing down my work flow.
The item is not greyed out in the menu and the dialog appears.

However, when I press Save an error appears which says:

"Could not complete this operation. An unknown error has occurred."

I have spoken with the online chat support and they told me this is a known bug and that I should add a message here.  So that's what I'm doing.  If I can provide any further information please let me know.

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Howdy Chris,

Do you get this error with all files?  Do you have anything else open?  Could you try this for me...:

1) launch PS
2) IMMEDIATELY clear your preferences as you launch
3) open a blank document, standard size
4) click File > Export > Save 4 Web

What happens?

Thanks,
David

Hi Chris,

Would you be able and willing to try testing this out under a new admin user account?

Wondering if there might be a permission or preference file that could be causing this error for you.

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/basic-troubleshooting.html#permissions

If it works there, we can look at adjusting permissions, restoring preferences, or investigating potential software conflicts, etc, in your user account.

Let us know how that goes.
Regards,
Pete

I was having this issue as well and I think I've finally fixed it. I'm using Photoshop 2020 21.2.0 and Catalina 10.15.5.

I had a # in the name of the folder where the PSD file was stored + where I was trying to save the animated GIF using Save for Web (Legacy) export option. Once I removed the # from that folder name, and made sure there were no other special characters in the folder path, I was able to export multiple GIF files using the legacy method. I hope this works for others as well and saves people from hours of frustration.

Save For Web isn't working. When I press Save an error appears which says: "Could not complete this operation. An unknown error has occurred." And I already updated to the last version of photoshop, so I don't know what else can I do

Hi Chris, I had the same issue until I figured out the problem. It was the naming convention. I had been naming the images #1234.jpg (as an example). If I dropped the # and just named it 1234.jpg the Save for Web worked just fine.

If you quit and restart Photoshop, does the error go away? Does it happen with all files? Any characters other than letters or numbers in the file name or path/folder you're saving to?
