Photoshop 23.2.2 Decreasing speed, freezing and crashing during painting – Solved?

During the various updates of PS 2022 23.x.x I experienced a distinct slow down during drawing tasks. Then as we approached vs 23.2.2 cursor wheels, screen freezes then crashes became common.
As an example, previous frequently performed tasks such as stroking paths using brushes with high % spacing (dots) became impossible without a crash. Also using the Workspace’s Maximum/Restore button resulted in multiple canvases appearing and Panels undocking and becoming stranded all over the desktop before the inevitable crash.
I naturally assumed my PC was developing a fault so days were spent testing and stressing my hardware. Finally after a period of nil productivity I looked at the fault from a new angle and following an unrelated clue, I hit on a sort of ‘fix’ for my problem. Hope this might help anyone also suffering from similar issues.
I found this was related to one PS ‘Preference’ setting:
Edit > Preferences > Technology Previews > Deactivate Native Canvas.
Tick the box then Click OK then Close and Restart Photoshop.
I have no illusions that this solves the problem but it might be a clue to the probable cause of the bug.

Hi Jeffrey,

I am experiencing this seriosly disruptive lag and slowness as well.

Attached is my Photoshop System Info. Although this lag is across Illustrator and Indesign as well.

All font take forever to load, saving taking forever and basically like watching a glazier shift...

There are so many complaints, what do Adobe engineers plan to do about all this?

Look forward to feeling like I can be productive again as a designer, rather than nurse maiding a spinning wheel.

I am having a similar problem where photoshop is unusably slow. Mac Pro 2013, 64 gb ram, firepro d500. PSD was working fine a few days ago, but updated to 23.2.2, but tried downgrading to 23.2.1 and its still unusable. Mac OS 12.3.

@Craig Curtis Let's make sure we're in a default state and there are no stale setting somewhere:

Does it work correctly?
If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.
If it does solve the problem, I would like to get the folder of settings to try and figure out what is bad with them.

I'm having similar issues - the application will temporarily freeze for between 1 and 5 seconds when I change tools, turn layer visibilty on or off etc. This is all since upgrading Mac OS to latest verion of Monterey (12.3.1). The reason I did this upgrade was to fix a previous issue in Photoshop whereby Vector Smart Objects were no longer editable in Illustrator, see this: https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/p-photoshop-23-2-2-can-t-open-update-vector-... 

I reset the Photoshop preferences which fixed the problem temporarily but it cama back.

Also I did a manual reset of preferences as suggested in this post but if anything I think this made th issue worse!

@MisterPhil It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.
