Photoshop 23.2.2 wont open mp4 files

I just bought latest verson of phtoshop for windows 11. It wont open mp4 files. I get message 'file can't be opened'. I see this has been aproblem for years now. 

 

What is photoshops answer. the same file opens in videomeld.

 

Any one have a solution?

Hi,

since mp4 only is a container format, we need a little more information on what codecs are used in your video.

You can do this with tools like MediaInfo or just open the file in VLC media player, there go to "Tools" -> "Codec Information".

I don't know how much this will help for Windows users (specifically I use Photoshop 2022 - 23.3.2 and Windows 11) but this was the best that I could find. Apparently, it may depend on the codecs (as Mister_M3780) mentioned. This post from 2020 may provide some helpful information. I essentially ended up just running my .mp4 videos (with wrong codec) through a converter to make .mov type to fix the problem with the codec mismatch.
