using photoshop 23.4 my work is to create bw photorealistic layouts for cnc etching. we make these in a variety of sizes ranging from 12x12" to upwards of 48" wide or more. scenes are created using many layers and techniques. files are saved as 8bit greyscale but sometimes remain 8bit rgb. SOMETIMES when doing any kind of brightness and contrast adjustment, say lots of dodge/burn, adjustments/shadows/highlight, the layer i'm doing said things one will distort as shown in crash jpgs 1,3. undoing, stepping back in history and saving the file does not help. if you step back and save to a point where the distortion is less, and reopen the file, that layer where it occurs now is partially filled black or has empty pixels (see crash2.jpg). the layer where the distortion has occured is partially destroyed. this has happened a number of times on 2 different systems. this first occurred last fall (see crash 3.jpg) on a hp 550-029 i5-4460 sff desktop with 6gb of ram (yes I know thats low) running an nvidia 1030gt with 4gb vram. It then happened again on another system, Gigabyte Z490 i5-10400 with 32gb ram with a newly installed 1660gt with 6gb vram with latest drivers (see crash1-2.jpg). This machine was running a gt710 previously (i know its not compatible with ps24 but this distortion never occured with the 710.both machines running win10.
has anyone seen or experienced this? are my video cards bad? are nvidia cards bad with ps in general? radeon better? please help. need to return the card soon if its defective. Full details below for the latter system and most recent distortion.
