photoshop 24.3.0 gradient line starting point problem

Hi;

I'm using photoshop cc 24.3.0 on my win 10 pc.
Hre is my problem, I used to draw gradient lines, whereever I want beyond the edges of the canvas (a photograph) but now I can't do this, it only allows me to draw the line from the edges of the photo, not below the canvas anymore.

Thanks for reaching out.

You are correct that the lines can be pulled beyond to adjust the gradient flow. Strangely, it's not happening on your end. 

What type of document are you working with? Can you please share a screenshot of the scene with the gradient tool selected?

You may try resetting Photoshop preferences back to defaults and check if that helps. Here's the article for the steps: https://adobe.ly/3ceal5t.

Also, back up the existing Photoshop preferences if you have any custom brushes, action, and workspace: https://adobe.ly/2vNz6FG

thx for your reply. I have tried resetting photoshop preferences both ways:

by using the photoshop edit->preferences dialoge and by manually removing preferences files from the folder (which is described on the link you sent to me) but nothing's changed, still not working,  the grad line can not be pulled beyond.

Maybe also consider using Gradient Layers instead of the Gradient Tool (Layer > New Fill Layer > Gradient).

Hello @darto1976 , thanks for reporting this issue. I'd like to ask a bit more about what is the gradient line that it's shown in the image. 

When drawing a gradient the line has a blue dot and a thin line as you can see in the gif attached.

Before starting the recording, please reset preferences once more and restart Photoshop. Start recording once Ps is showing the home page.

Thank you for the additional info.
We can see from your System Info display that you have useGPU: 0 which means that in your Preferences > Performance panel, the Use Graphics Processor checkbox is disabled OR some condition is making Photoshop judge that your graphics processor is insufficient or cannot presently be used.  When the GPU is disabled we cannot draw some interactive widgets, such as the gradient widget outside the document preview itself.  In this case the gradient IS actually being drawn - you just can't seen the line for the tool until it crosses the document itself.

If you'd like to see the full gradient widget, including starting it outside the document preview area, please go into your Edit > Performance preferences, and check the box next to Use Graphics Processor.  Then restart Photoshop.

If for some reason Photoshop gauges your GPU insufficient or unstable and turns off the Use Graphics Processor setting again, please check for updated Windows display drivers for your GPU from nvidia.com.

Thx for your reply, I have disabled the Graphics Processor checkbox (as you can see on the video I had sent to you) thats because if that is unchecked then when I try to open an image in photoshop, the screen keeps on blinking. I have read this solution from the dpreview forums and by unchecking that the blinking problem is fixed but now the grad tool does not work as designed. 

Im gonna try to update my graphics card’s driver and I hope it works. Thx again for your help

I've just checked to see that I'm using the updated driver for my nvidia gt730 driver and when "use graphics processor" is checked, then the blinking screen problem occurs. If it is unchecked , then the image opens without any problems but gradient tool's line is not visible until it is on the image..

Rather than disabling your GPU, have you tried leaving that enabled and going to Preferences Technology Previews and checking Deactivate Native Canvas. That should stop the flashing screen without disabling all GPU functionality.
