Hi there,
I'd like to report a bug, as in subject. This happens only in 25.9 version, I've downgraded to 25.7, and it doesn't happen.
When I have a document, with couple of artboards in it (let's say, ad banners) - when I try to move any artboard, and, after clicking on the name, and starting to drag it to move it someplace alse - when I try to pass it over any other artboard, or layer, which is outside the artboards - PS freezes.
It happens every time, in every document I've opened.

@Zbigniew22996983iksk I just test on my system with Photoshop version 25.9 on Windows 11 and can't replicate the issue, have you tried manually resetting your Photoshop preferences

Remember to back up your settings before doing the preference reset

Have you figured this out? Been battling this forever and see it's not just me.
Love how Adobe is more focused on stealing art to feed their AI than have an optimized and working product.

For now the best option is to install photoshop 25.5.

25.5 works beautifully. That'll do.

Hi there.
Yes, I've cleared the preferences, nothing changed.
I checked the issue on two machines, both with win 11, and AMD Ryzen 9 5900x, and 64GB of ram, and same mobo, only the graphic cards were different (gtx 1060 and rtx 4070), and it happens on both.

Just observed the same issue on 25.9, to replicate I tested 7 artboards at 2500px W x 6000px H, 72ppi and 8bit when moving the application lags badly, even when moving or adding content it hangs.
System: Laptop i7-11370h 3.30GHz 40GB RAM Windows 11, 3050 Ti 4GB
Going to test out the 25.7 version now.

Can confirm I've had the same issue. 3 artboards (1080x1920) - moving the artboards and photsohop wouild compeltly freeze requirng force quit. Tested and replicared across all PSD or PSB files with artboards.
System spec: Sonoma 14.5, Apple M2 Max, 64GB RAM, 2TB SSD (1TB avialable).
This needs fixing asap. Only solution has been to revert to an older version.

Also to add, I first tried doing a clean install of Photoshop first to the latest vesrion. Did not help.

Happens to me as well, I'm losing hours of work by now.
Has this been reported as a bug already?

Since update to 25.9, moving larger artboards by dragging or nudging takes ages.
Often, at first, the action would not even complete.
Moving would take up to a few minutes (with few 4K artboards containing tens of layers with smart object, masks, styles and vectors) to complete, depending on how large an artboard is.
Typically, the artboard would stay in place and freeze Photoshop, then a spinner would appear (if you're patient enough), and after some time, there would be a popup with a progress bar moving slowly or not at all, before the action is finally competed.
After few moves (and nerves lost), the artboard gets faster.
There is no obvious problem with newly created artboards and documents with little content, but in working conditions, it makes rearranging them almost impossible. You wouldn't even be able to control where they would end up.
Before the update to 25.9, same documents and same artboards were working fine, taking few seconds on the extreme end.
Specs:
Photoshop version: 25.9
System: Windows 10 Pro,
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHz, 3192 Mhz
Memory (RAM): 32GB
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 and RTX 3060
It has been reproduced on two Windows PCs.

Hey all! Please try these steps one at a time & report how it goes:
1 - Go to Edit/Photoshop > Preferences/Settings (CTRL/CMD + K) > Performance > Advanced Settings > Disable 'GPU Compositing' & restart Photoshop & check if it helps.
If it does not help, reverse this & try the step 2.
2 - Create a mask on the Artboard level & check if that helps.
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks!

Can confirm step 1 doesn't work as I tried it based on advice in another thread. I don't believe step 2 would work either as I had tried to moving artboards with and without layer masks - but can't currenty test to replciate since I reverted to an older version (25.5) which fixed the issue immediatly. This is actually a major issue and really needs to be addressed asap so we can use the latest version.

Thanks for all the feedback in this forum. I thought it was the new installs of what ever IT installed on my machine the other day playing silly buggers. I'll go back to 25.5 as this seems to be the most suggested version.

Any of the solutions proposed hasn't worked because the problem is on the software, not compatibility, I work in a profesional environment and we spend a lot of time testing all 25 subversions, all works terribly bad, 25.0 25.1 make the monitors black for some minutes then go back, other subversions hangs and show a message error, then the app closes, from 25.0 to 25.11 all works terribly wrong.
Hey Adobe I am paying to have the latest version of the app and working, why I should use version 24? No really, you had like 11 opportunities to fix version 25.
I am 100% sure this problem is related with AI, which is the new baby on the version 25, remove that bot which is useless and please let us work correctly.

I have had this problem for several Photoshop versions by now. To my best memory, this started over a year ago. Most definitely with Photoshop 2024 (version 25.0 onwards) although it might have started in the later versions of Photoshop 2023 already.
Luckily, Photoshop does not crash when trying to move art board, but it does freeze and then lag massively while trying to move. The artboards will bounce back or overshoot the location I am trying to move them to, typically by a massive margin at first and the more I try, the more precise it "lands" on the almost right spot.
The magnetic snapping to align with preexisting artboards does lag significantly as well compared to older versions.
Changing the recommended Performance Settings / GPU-compositing does not fix the issue.
I am currently running
Adobe Photoshop Version: 26.0.0 20240927.r.26 a733fda x64
on Windows 11,
11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11370H @ 3.30GHz 3.30 GHz
RAM 32,0 GB
NVIDIA RTX A2000 Laptop GPU
maybe relevant to the issue:
Alongside the problem of moving artboards initially occured, I also took note of a different handeling of the "gradient" adjustment layers or moving smart objects from one to another artboard at the same time. I think there might be a connection?
Before the artboard-moving-problems occured: e.g. gradient layers were confined within their respective artboards and it was easy to copy them from one artboard to another with CTRL-SHIFT-V while keeping the position of gradient. Likewise, copying smart objects from one artboard to another kept their respective positons to one another.
When I initially started having the artboard problems, I as well noticed that I could no longer copy gradients into the same position as the starting/ending point seemed no longer confined to the artboard itself but the full work space (I had to put a mask on the gradient layer from there on to move them to another artboard correctly without altering their appearance). Also copying smart objects changed their positions at times, placed them in wrong artboards (if the overlap was too close) or put the layers outside of the folder structures at the top of the layer list. It costs a lot of unneeded time to sort everything in their right "artboard folder" again...

Sadly Adobe don't care about this too much, they care about only trends, like AI, so instead of make photoshop work properly, they keep adding stupid things on top of it making it the most unusable design tool out there, thank you Adobe to make me use Figma!!! No really, thank you!!
