Photoshop and Lightroom on Linux [2018]

Linux users have great tools for editing images. But when we want something like a photoshop or lightroom that are more excellent tools we become helpless.

I ask: Why does Adobe do these tools for Windows and Mac and does it for Linux? Everyone knows that the Linux platform is one of the most used on the planet, if it is not the most used today, and Adobe does not pay attention to this platform. The only product I know for Linux is Flash.

I would like to be a Photoshop and Lightroom user on Linux.

my 2 cents here... at home I use Windows 10, Linux (Ubuntu & Mint) and apple.  All on different machines.  I would ditch the windows machine and the macbook today if I could entirely rely on Linux.  For me to do that I need at at least Photoshop and Lightroom on Linux.  we can't force Adobe to listen ... just hoping someone else will ... I have no allegiance to Adobe, I just need to get the job done.

Regarding Photoshop equivalents, I'd suggest Pixeluvo ( = Photoshop Elements) and PhotoLine + Wine ( = Photoshop / Affinity Photo / PaintShop Pro).

With RAW editors, you've got more choice in the form of Darktable, RawTherapee, LightZone (all free) and the paid-for Corel AfterShot Pro (I have used this software and I think that it's fully competent).

The only way to find out if they will work for you so that you can make the full time switch to Linux is to try out these softwares and see how you get on with them.

You probably know somebody using a chromebook (which is a flavor of linux)  Everybody I know has snatched up a cheap chromebook recently due to the cheap price, they added Android support in the past couple years but now the newer chromebooks (2018 and on) have added support for Linux apps as well, so Linux market share is about to increase drastically..

Достаточно долго пользуюсь Linux. Но для работы в photoshop и lightroom приходится иметь дополнительно windows, потому что Adobe  попросту игнорируют пользователей linux. Это дорого и глупо. Люди зачастую потому только и не переходят на linux, что не могут использовать продукцию Adobe. Вы меня заставляете приобретать совершенно ненужный мне windows, тратить на него дополнительные деньги - я не настолько богат, чтобы покупать ненужный хлам, мне в работе нужен linux. Обратите, наконец, внимание на эту систему.

My technical friends who use Windows always have this as either their 1st or 2nd reason for staying on Windows:

I doubt Adobe reads these forums.

But with Apple's announcements about moving to ARM, I and I imagine many others are about to move to Linux over the next year or two. It's not tenable to stay in Apple's ecosystem as it becomes more and more closed with fewer and fewer options for power users.

I do not plan to use Windows.

I know my way around Linux very, very well, and use it for almost everything other than desktop applications. At my workplace, every but the marketing staff is Linux, and with the changes in Mac OS, well... You know what I'm about to say.

Adobe, we're paying customers. We'd love to continue paying Adobe for years to come. Otherwise, it's off to GIMP, RawTherapee/DarkTable, VivaDesigner, InkScape, etc.

We have heard this nonsense for years. Most people (ie most of the people paying for software) aren't going to switch to Linux. Period.

A good alternative and having the best of both worlds is a Hackintosh. Even more so now that even AMD Rizen processors can be used without problems.
You can have an upgradeable PC and use Mac OS x with your favorite programs.
There are sites dedicated to Hackintosh that practically have distros that install themselves and with very little to configure.
You just have to take into account having compatible hardware, which is not difficult.

I have worked for 10 years with Desktop Linux !, and whenever I wanted to buy Lightroom, but I am not going to leave my Linux for it lightroom. so I have to settle for "AfterShot Pro" it is at a good cost !, I think that Lightroom will never exist for linux

Yo llevo 10 años utilizando Linux de Escritorio, lamentablemente no puedo usar el lightroom!, existen manera no muy buenas de usarlos como con Wine, pero yo les recomiendo que utilizen el AfterShot de Corel, es muy bueno! y trabaja bien!.

Desafortunadamente no puedo decir cual es mejor pues no he podido trabajar con LightRoom, pero me dicen que es muy bien.,
