photoshop cc5 convert image to .jpg why does coworker take 1 hour per image?

I have a coworker brought in as a temp hire, and out of frustration I can not understand why it takes 1 hour to take an existing photoshop .psd image and convert it to a .jpg image. 8 images in an eight hour day! The product images consist of a solid color product with a white background, 1000 x 1000 pixels 300 dpi CMYK. Any suggestions?

​You state "convert" presumably you're using "Save As", which is correct.

I suggest you reset your Photoshop preferences as you seem to have a software corruption issue:

Close and relaunch Photoshop and hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac), and respond in the affirmative to the dialog asking if you really want to replace the preferences.

thank you for the response, I will check the software corruption,  and watch the process. Yes save aa a .jpg is used, no extreme detail in the image 800 x 800 pixels, 300 dpi, bit depth 24, resolution unit 2, sRGB, single color product, white background. I have seen the image being exploded to a very high dpi and being retraced as part if the process, never done any image retouching that takes 1 hour on a basic image, an example is below:.

If the images are of poor quality, an hour to fix them up might be the best investment you've made in a while. An appealing image does wonders for sales.

No-one here can answer your question without seeing the before and after images.

Exporting a jpeg takes seconds. Retouching and preparing an image for use can take seconds to hours depending on the level of work required.

As was asked earlier. Have you watched what is being done?

Yeah Dave, I seem to have misunderstood this question.

As you say, it depends on what they are after and the quality of the original image. Seems they need to agree a clear objective re quality and timing with the co-worker!

An hour per image is about right if he is uploading to an internet forum like this one, and persauding them to do the work and mail it back to him.

Looking at your product shot example, I'm guessing that the very least he is doing is creating cliping masks for each shot.  ISTR reading that the companies that provide a clipping mask service to the industry, insist that their employees veiew the shot at less than 1:1 zoom ratio to prevent them being to fussy and taking too long.  Even so, an hour to process and prepare a product shot does not sound unreasonable to me, but like everyone has told you, it depends........
