Photoshop crashes when I use the marquee tool

Photoshop crashes on my new laptop whenever I use the marquee tool. Attached are specs for my laptop. I have plenty of free space. My graphics card is Intel Iris Xe. Thanks for any insights.

same issue here when it crashed task manager use memory almost 100% only on PS this is the data i have and the codes that give me after  ps close 5 minutes or more

This shows that you have a trial version, but the Retouch4Me plugins are not part of Adobe's installation. Can you update to the current Photoshop 24.1.1 and remove those plugins?

When Photoshop crashes, this is the first thing to do, try resetting your Photoshop preferences. Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (macOS) immediately after launching Photoshop. You will be prompted to delete the current settings. You can also reset preferences upon a quit if Photoshop is running by going into General Preferences>General>Reset on Quit.

(macOS only) Open the Preferences folder in the Library folder*, and drag the Adobe Photoshop CS Settings folder to the Trash.

This action only affects the items found in the preferences dialog box. Numerous program settings are stored in the Adobe Photoshop Preferences file, including general display options, file-saving options, performance options, cursor options, transparency options, type options, and options for plug‑ins and scratch disks. Brushes (and lots of other setting) are not affected by the above instructions for deleting preferences. You may wish to make a screen capture of the settings in the Preferences dialog to reset them prior to deleting of this file.

*To manually delete Photoshop preferences:
Quit Photoshop.
Navigate to Photoshop's Preferences folder:
macOS**: Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
Windows 10: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
**Note:The user Library folder is hidden by default on macOS. In the Finder, hold down the Option key when using the Go menu. The library will appear below the current user's home directory.
Now you can drag the entire Adobe Photoshop [Version] Settings folder to the desktop or somewhere safe for a backup of your settings

If that doesn't fix the issue:
Go to Preferences > Performance... and uncheck Multithreaded Compositing - and restart Photoshop.
Still crashing? 
Go to Preferences > Performance... click Advanced Settings... and uncheck "GPU Compositing" - then restart Photoshop. Still crashing?

I appreciate you taking time to address my situation. I did all those things before finally giving up an uninstalling Photoshop. Tomorrow I plan to reinstall Photoshop and try again. I was just hoping for a new plan of attack.

You could try running the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to remove all traces of the Adobe software before reinstalling it (yet again):  https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Did you also disable GPU in preferences?

Is your Intel Iris Xe the only graphics card you have installed?

If so, did you try going to Preferences/Technology Preview and choosing "Older GPU Mode (2016)"instead of turning off all GPU controls to see if that resolves.

Yes, the iris is the only graphics card that I have. Do I find the older GPU mode in Photoshop settings? That is another good suggestion that I had not heard about.

So I followed all the instructions and reinstalled Photoshop, and the program is crashing again when I use the marquee tool. So frustrating. Especially now that I know GIMP is not a viable option. I don't know what else to do. I've fiddled with every setting, used the cleansing tool and reinstalled ...
