Photoshop crashing on brand new gaming PC

I just bought a new gaming PC 3 weeks ago and Photoshop CC keeps crashing.  The system is the

HP - Gaming Desktop - AMD Ryzen 7-Series - 16GB Memory - AMD Radeon RX 580 - 1TB Hard Drive + 128GB Solid State Drive. After working in Photoshop for just moments sometimes, my screen goes blank and my backlit keyboard goes blank as well.  However, the lights on the PC are still on. The only way to fix the problem is to kill the power via the surge protector and reboot.  The problem persists though and has happened multiple times.

Now, I will say that I did have to move PS from my C drive to my D drive. The C drive became full very quickly.  PS kept crashing because I believe there wasn't enough memory on the drive to run it.  So, I moved it to the D drive where there was plenty of room to install and run it.  When, I installed it on that drive, it said I needed to create a folder first, and I did. (I called it Adobe)  It installed fine, but that's when I started getting the crashing issues. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi

How much free space do you have on the C drive, and how much free space do you have for the scratch disk, it's recommended to have at least 25% free space on and SSD

I have 34.4 GB free. Mind you, PS isn't currently installed on that drive.  How do I find out how much free space is available for the scratch disk?

Please bare with me. I apologize. How do I get to the preferences to see how much space is on my scratch disk?

Just hit CTRL + K and then select the Scratch Disks tab, or go to Edit > Preferences > Scratch Disks

Also can you post your Photoshop system info, in Photoshop go to Help > System Info, hit the copy button and paste the entire thing into this thread

Okay, for whatever reason, CTRL K is doing nothing. I went into the PS preferences and it looks like I have 10440 MB free. Does that sound right?

That's only about 10GB, not near enough for the scratch disk, you need at a minimum 100GB, you can allocate the 1TB drive for the scratch disk

System info looks OK although you could try updating your GPU driver

Radeon™ RX 580 Previous Drivers | AMD

In preferences > performance try disabling "use graphics processor" and restarting Photoshop to see if it still crashes

Okay. Also, I did check my event log and there were two errors apparently stemming from my Wacom tablet.

Faulting application name: Wacom_Tablet.exe, version: 6.3.34.3, time stamp: 0x5cd5d858

Faulting module name: Wacom_Tablet.exe, version: 6.3.34.3, time stamp: 0x5cd5d858

Fault offset: 0x00000000004f37bd

Faulting process id: 0x16f0

Faulting application start time: 0x01d50ca819eabd24

Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Tablet\Wacom\Wacom_Tablet.exe

Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Tablet\Wacom\Wacom_Tablet.exe

Report Id: ceb90cae-6bf0-41f6-960a-69428a3f3d12

Faulting package full name:

It happened twice today.  And, I have updated my driver via Windows. I haven't gone to Radeon's site and done it yet. And, HP Support Assistant says everything is up to date.  I'll disable Use Graphics Processor and see if that does anything.  Oh, my Wacom driver is up to date. Just did that yesterday.

Hi

I would take the system C drive which appears to have only 30GB space left off the scratch disk list. Just go to Preferences > Scratch Disk and untick it. If the system disk gets full you are open to crashes.

Then I would ensure the GPU driver is up to date.

Does the time of the Wacom error coincide with your system lock up?

I can't uncheck it.  Plus, PS is currently running on my D drive which is unchecked. Should I uninstall it from my D drive and  try putting it back on C now?

I did use PS after all this moments ago and it froze, but didn't crash. I had to end the task.

You need to have at least one scratch disk selected, so select the D drive and then you should be able to deselect the C drive

Use this tool to uninstall and try installing on the C drive and allocate the other drive for the scratch disk

Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

So far, so good. Still on D drive, but it hasn't crashed yet. Thanks for everyone's help. I'll be back if problems persist.

Maybe, unchecking Use Graphics Processor? I honestly don't know.  Whatever I did, it's working at the moment. But, it doesn't always crash right away.  I MIGHT try putting it back on my C drive later.  Too much to do at the moment to deal with possible crashes though. Crossing my fingers.

If it's working OK with use graphics processor disabled then that what indicate that it's an issue GPU driver, you will lose some functionality with that disabled more info

Photoshop graphics processor (GPU) card FAQ

Also take a look here

Troubleshoot Photoshop graphics processor (GPU) and graphics driver issues

Anyway wait a while to see if you have any issue with it disabled, at least that way we can narrow down the cause
