dialog box reads: cant save because file is in use or opened in another application

You posted to the Photoshop Developer's forum, and it does not look like your post is about Photoshop API or scripting UI. Most of the posts that land here are in error or are spam. Let us know so we can move your post to the proper forum.
One possibility is that you have the file open in a second version of Photoshop or in another application.
- Quit all applications except PS CS5 and try Save again.
- Try Save As and save with a different name.
- Try Image menu > Duplicate and see if you can save that version.
- If nothings works, you may have to shut down your computer and relaunch. You will lose the work since your last save.
