Photoshop CS6 automatically changes images to PSD when I crop them

Community Beginner ,

When I open a jpg file, correct levels etc and save it it saves as a jpg.

If I crop/ rotate or anything else it automatically changes the format to a photoshop psd file which is incredibly annoying.

I then have to go into layers and flatten the layer beofreit allows me to save as a jpg.

Has anyone else experienced this and do you have a fix please?

Thanks

A JPEG cannot have layers. You have to flatten to save it.

What are the Crop Tool’s settings (»Delete Cropped Pixels«)?
Please post a meaningful screenshot.

Resaving jpgs damages the images – why do you want to do that?

If you uncheck »Delete Cropped Pixels« the Background Layer gets converted to a regular Layer when cropping – and as Lumigraphics already stated jpgs cannot contain Layers other than the Background Layer.
