When choosing the right click>open in Photoshop 2025 option from lightroom the app (photoshop) will open but does not open the image to edit. Repeating that right click (etc) the window will switch to photoshop but at that point the app freezes (completely unresponsive) and can't be closed normally without using the windows task manager.
I've tried:
-Resetting lightroom preferences as recommended in previous posts
-Uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop entirely
I see this issue has been reported several years in the past and wonder if maybe Adobe should focus less on AI and pay humans to do quality control. I never had issues with basic functionality like this 10-20 years ago. Any help is appreciated.

Hi @HumanUserPerson, I’m really sorry to hear you’re having trouble opening images from Lightroom Classic into Photoshop. I know how frustrating that can be.
Could you let me know which versions of Lightroom Classic and Photoshop you’re using? Does this happen with every image, or just some? Also, does the same thing happen if you try using a different method like "Open as Smart Object in Photoshop"?
It might also help to try resetting your Photoshop preferences. If that doesn’t do the trick, could you share your System Info? You can find it in Photoshop under Help, then System Info. Just copy the info into a text file and attach it here, or share it through Google Drive, WeTransfer, or whatever works best for you.
Thanks so much!
Alek

@Aleke Further info - the Raw Details option seems to be the cause. In the of the detail enhancements options any combination that involves that will cause photoshop to freeze. Denoise>open in PS works fine, but Raw Details>open in PS or Super Resolution>open in PS (which includes raw details, from what I can see in the basic update release notes) will cause PS to freeze. I only work with CR2 raw files so I'm not sure about other types.

Hi @HumanUserPerson, thanks so much for sharing your System Info and all the extra details. That really helps.
I tested things on my end, and the Edit in Photoshop command seems to work normally for me, even with Raw Details and Super Resolution enhancements turned on.
From your System Info, I noticed your machine has two different graphics cards. Sometimes that can cause issues, especially if the drivers conflict or if Photoshop ends up using the less powerful one. I recommend checking out this guide to make sure the app is using the more powerful graphics card: https://adobe.ly/44Fc94R
If that does not solve it, it would be super helpful if you could record your screen showing your whole workflow when the issue happens. A sample Raw file would also help us test things more closely on our side.
Thanks again for your patience. Let me know how it goes.
Alek

Bumping for visibility. I also am having the same issue as the OP, and it is exactly as he is describing when using the new AI Raw Details option images can no longer be imported into Photoshop 2025 (or the beta release) without the program freezing. However photos that have not been edited with the new raw details features are able to open as smart objects in PS with no issues

Thanks for chiming in. Going through the steps to set PS and Sniffer.exe to use the correct gpu made no difference for me either. It works fine as long as I don't use anything that uses raw details.

I have the same (or similar issue). Did you resolved this?
Thanks

Hi @UniverseExplorer, thanks for jumping in. I’m sorry to hear you’re experiencing this too.
To help us investigate this further, could you confirm if you’ve already tried the suggestions shared earlier by @Aleke? Specifically:
• Are you using Raw Details or Super Resolution in Lightroom Classic before choosing Edit in Photoshop?
• Have you checked your graphics settings to ensure Photoshop and Sniffer.exe are set to use the more powerful GPU? (https://adobe.ly/44Fc94R)
• Does the issue occur with every image enhanced with Raw Details, or just certain files?
• Have you tried using Edit in Photoshop without applying Raw Details, and does that work reliably?
To better understand your system and replicate the issue, could you also share the following:
• Your Photoshop & Lightroom System Info (from Help > System Info, you can copy and paste it into a text file and attach it here.
• A sample RAW file that triggers the freeze
• A screen recording showing the steps you take and where exactly Photoshop freezes
• Whether your files are stored locally or on an external/network drive
This will help our team dig deeper and share more targeted recommendations. Appreciate your help in getting this sorted!
Best,
Anshul Saini
