photoshop generative fill changes objects, not deleted them, I want to delete the image marked in red, but each time it adds another object instead of deleting it. I have tried many ways but it won't delete it. Not for this image. I have the same situation with different images. It never deletes it.

Are you using any text prompts? Normally leaving it blank should do it, but have you tried "white background" or other text? Have you just tried using tje remove tool?

Also having this issue today. Tried leaving the prompt blank, tried a ".", tried "remove", tried "wall and floor" (i am trying to remove a chair). Nothing works, and honestly I'm pretty disallusioned with adobe for acting like they've made ground breaking advancements when I'm sitting here unable to just remove a chair for a really crude mock up. I've also tried the direct select tool, and all the lasso tools.

This is not the result I should get when the dialogue box is left blank??

I do not know if this is from a recent update but it has gone from just removing 100% of the time to adding weird random objects 100% of the time when I live the field blank. Very frustrating

After playing with this more, using the generative fill, even if left blank, will fill with some item similar to what was there. If you want to remove an item, use the Remove Tool.

It doesn't seem to matter what you write in the prompt, in any case a new object is created. Acting exactly as Midyourney -s "Vary" selection- same problem there. As if it comes from the same code 🙂
This removal of the object from the image seems to be false advertising...?
The only thing I bought in Photoshop right now is regretting that I have to give it up!
In addition, you can't find any support tickets system, only some AI bot - well, come on Adobe!?
Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like I've been cheated... Looks like Im returning and leaving customer :=

Even content-aware mess that up

I can do it manually with any program, So why photoshop needed in my case?

Same problem with newest update. Used to work perfectly - now I cannot get it to remove the object with generative fill. SO FRUSTRATING! 😕

Hello, I had the same problem but if you type "no" instead of leaving it blank it works 🙂 it doesn't add anything. Hope that helps!

You can do anything without Generative Fill, but the point is though, that this was one of the 'selling points' often pointed out. That you can delete things from your image with Generative fill. It's really strange that this doesn't work anymore. When using the Remove tool, it's still not perfect, and with Generative fill it pretty much was, most of the time.

Hi,

I managed to get it to work, just added some more of the surrounding area when selecting. In my case it was balloons, I just selected more of the surrounding wall & it generated a blank background.

Hope this helps.

Adobe - please change generative fill so that NO means NO, and REMOVE means REMOVE.  It can do a better job matching the background than the Remove Tool if it would not try to add objects back into the selection.

Facing the same issue. Even if the generative fill is left empty, photoshop will not delete the item it will keep replacing with random items. Though in one of the tutorials it was mentioned select with lasso and leave the generative blank photoshop will do its job. But apparently it is not doing what it is claiming and it is very frustrating. Please help.
