I have a 10 second long 1080p video I want as a high quality gif. When I inport the video into Photoshop and then try to export it, on the Save for Web window Photoshop seems to do a pre-render of the gif to tell me what file size it is and what the gif will look like. This is bad because doing this pre-render eats up my RAM completely and when I attempt to export the gif I get an error. Software like Premiere has no problem exporting gifs, the reason why I need photoshop tho is because there is a very specific set of settings I use to get what I think is the best quality. If you export a gif using Premiere Pro vs Photoshop (and the settings I use), you can see the difference. Is there a solution to this problem that doesn't require me to upgrade my pc? Any alternatives softwares or a setting that tells photoshop to export the gifs and not do a pre-render unless I want it to?
Here is the list of settings I need:
Color reduction algorithm: Adaptive
Dither algorithm: Noise
Colors: 256
Transparency: True
Interlaced: True
The support for animated GIF in Save As/GIF was added in Photoshop 2020 (version 21) that was released November 2019. It’s documented in that version’s release notes.
It sounds like your version is slightly older than that, so you have to use Save for Web (Legacy), and the problem with that is its code is so old that it doesn’t use modern memory management. That’s why Adobe added newer animated GIF support to Save As/GIF.

Hey, @Julian23023339vaqm. I'll help you figure this out. What version of Photoshop & the operating system are you working on?
'Save for Web (Legacy)' is a deprecated workflow. You can use File > Save As > select GIF & you'll have the settings you wish to set to save as GIF.
I've set it the way you described. You'll still have to select the specific options at your end.
Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

I use a different application to create animated GIF quickly and without memory issues, but the reason I’m not suggesting it is that it doesn’t provide direct control over the color palette and number of colors.

Thank you so much. After getting Photoshop 2020, saving gifs have been a whole lot easier. Thanks again.
