For the past week, my computer crashes approximately 30 seconds after opening a JPG in Photoshop. It does not seem to have the same problem with PSD files - just JPGs. Other Adobe applications seem to work fine (like Premiere), and I can open JPGs in other programs. When the crash occurs, I get the error code: "System Thread Exception Not Handled" - nvlddmkm.sys failed.
I have a PC with Windows 11 version 21H2, OS build 22000.1641. With an NVidia GeForce GTX 1050. My Photoshop is the most current version (24.2.1).
Thoughts?
Welcome to the Photoshop Community @Jason24002140il7n. I'll help you figure this out.
Entire PC crashing is mainly related to a system-level issue with Nvidia Drivers. This specific error has been around for ten years with older Nvidia GPUs. Have you recently updated the GPU drivers on your computer?
Try a clean-installation of Nvidia Drivers & check this for help: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-gpu-graphics-card.html
Let us know how it goes. Thanks!

Thank you - I was unaware that I was using Nvidia's "Game-Ready" drivers. I have switched to "Studio" drivers, and the problem seems to have (tentatively) been resolved. I will keep an eye on it, and work through the rest of the steps you suggested if it acts up again.

I'm having the exact same issue. I'm about to install studio drivers. How has it worked for you?

Hey, @foxintoned. I'll need more info to help you figure this out. Please share the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy & paste into a text document > upload & attach here.
What is the exact error code that comes up on the Blue screen? If the steps you've tried do not help, I recommend contacting Nvidia or Microsoft for driver & OS-level debugging.
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks!
