Before doing anything else, try to hold the spacebar while clicking "print". This removes all old print metadata embedded in the file.

If you need to constantly reset preferences, there is either a folder permissions issue, preventing preferences to be correctly written - or the application has irregular shutdowns. Or both, they could be connected.

Generally, preferences are prone to corruption because they are rewritten on every application exit (as opposed to read-only program files).

Hi Guys, well after many uninstall and installs of both Photoshop (various versions) and updated drivers from Epson, I finally found a solution that works for me......  Unplugged USB to my ET -2850, went into device manager and removed the printer, also ticking box (remove driver too). I then downloaded Epson Universal Driver from their website Plugged back in USB and then installed the Uni Driver. Problem solved!! heres the link to it....

Hi @johnk49665372

I can imagine how inconvenient it must be for you to encounter crash issues. I'll do my best to assist you in resolving them.

Which version of Photoshop and Windows are you using? What is the file format?

Please ensure you have installed the latest printer drivers for your specific printer model. Visit the printer manufacturer's website to download and install the most up-to-date drivers. Outdated or incompatible printer drivers can sometimes cause crashes when printing from Photoshop.

If the issue persists, you may try resetting Photoshop preferences back to defaults and check if that helps. Here's the article for the steps: https://adobe.ly/3ceal5t.

Also, back up the existing Photoshop preferences if you have any custom brushes, action, and workspace: https://adobe.ly/2vNz6FG.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Ranjisha

Quit Photoshop if running.
Relaunch Photoshop and open the file that you want to print.
Press the Spacebar on your keyboard before you click File > Print. This process resets printer preferences that have been written into the image.

Thank you DigitalDog! This fixed the problem. No preference deletion is required. Keep holding the spacebar while you select FILE/PRINT and everything works again. Magic!

I have the same issue with latest PS and PS Beta.  Crash before print dialog right to windows.  Doesn't matter what file I try to print.  Rebooted, tried the spacebar suggestion and checked print drivers and default printer.  Only happens in PS.  It's a new bug for me also.

I fixed it by backing up my Preferences and then resetting them.

That worked for me as well! I had installed new Epson drivers and PS crashed every time I tried to print. Reset my preferences and it's OK now. Thanks.

This also worked for me, as well.  I've been dealing with this for months!  So happy the solution was found.

What is the function of backing up the preferences? Do you then reload your preferences from the save file?

I have 2 printers, both with fully updated drivers, I have reset my photoshop preferences, but still attempting to select PRINT causes an instant crash of Photoshop (same with Beta). Please help ...there is work that needs doing.

I would be willing to back one of your printers as an Epson. I have found a in compatibility with Photoshop and Epson printers. It is verifiable and reputable. I have an Epson C 57, 90, and an 8770.

The problem is the Epson provided drivers. There is a workaround to change the drivers for the Epson printer to the Microsoft IPP drivers.

Thanks for your suggestion. I found that resetting preferences cured the
problem, but you're right that it was an Epsom printer that highlighted the
problem. (3700 series).

This happens to me, routinely for a few years now. The only work around I've found is to export to png and print from the png.  Not all .psd cause this but once it starts with a file,  that file is broken for printing forever.  Problem persists across multipe versions of PS including current 2024.   Their web site blames printer drivers.  Lame excuse.  PS should detect and report which printer driver is problematic if that's the case.  It just freezes, then dies.   Not pretty.

Resetting PS options or using space bar when printing don't work.  Starting to remove printers was going to be my next gambit and at James---mzs's suggestion I removed my one Epson printer first.  Success.  Printer dialogs open up on problematic files now.  Now let's see if I can reinstall the Epson....

Curiously, it's not all files affected.  New files aren't affected but can become problematic later.  I think but have not confirmed that printing to a canon printer first breaks it when I then try to print to the Epson later.

Resetting PS options or print options (spacebar) don't work.  Mucking with printer drivers was my next gambit and on james---mzs's suggestion I removed the epson printer first.  PS crash corrected.

Let MS install the Epson printer.  PS crashing again.

Uninstall printer and install from drivers downloaded from Epson site.  PS printing restored.

Thanks James!

I'm starting to have this problem in photoshop ( only some .PSD )  My work around for now is. Windows 10

Open a file that works, hit print, change the seleted printer to another printer. My default printer is ( Epson 15000 Series ) close.

Go back to file with issue, hit print, chacge printer back to printer needed in diolog window, continue as normal.

I have the latest photoshop as well as bata as of 11/28/2023

Have not tried any other reset to default yet.  Maybe change the default printer to somthing diffrent than the one giving issue if all eles failes.

This is an ongoing BUG that adobe know all about but cannot rectify it. I have had many many remote sessions with so called "Tech Guys" and i use those 2 words loosly! The only way around it at present is the following....

C:\Users\your name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2024.

From here delete this folder ..... (Adobe Photoshop 2024 Settings)

When you reboot it will make a new settings folder and rebuild setting!

Adobe customer service a waist of time.
