Before doing anything else, try to hold the spacebar while clicking "print". This removes all old print metadata embedded in the file.
If you need to constantly reset preferences, there is either a folder permissions issue, preventing preferences to be correctly written - or the application has irregular shutdowns. Or both, they could be connected.
Generally, preferences are prone to corruption because they are rewritten on every application exit (as opposed to read-only program files).
Hi Guys, well after many uninstall and installs of both Photoshop (various versions) and updated drivers from Epson, I finally found a solution that works for me...... Unplugged USB to my ET -2850, went into device manager and removed the printer, also ticking box (remove driver too). I then downloaded Epson Universal Driver from their website Plugged back in USB and then installed the Uni Driver. Problem solved!! heres the link to it....

I'm having the same issue. I can print from any other printing option, just when I try to do it from Photoshop it just closes and never prints. I have a small business and need to print from Photoshop for best results. I'm finally getting used to using Photoshop for what I need it for so I'm really hoping to not have to switch programs. Thanks for any suggestions on what to do.

IF it’s a MAC, reset printing system:
On your Mac, choose Apple menu System Preferences, then click Printers & Scanners
Press and hold the Control key as you click in the list at the left, then choose “Reset printing system” from the menu that appears.
After you reset the printing system, the list of printers in Printers & Scanners preferences is empty.
Reinstall the print driver, only from the manufacturer, not Apple.
Also take a look at the following article and check if that helps:

You may like to re-install the printer drivers to check if that makes a difference?

Where is the Photoshop settings folder? Photoshop just started crashing when I try and print and I keep resetting preferences but it doesn't last. Everything has been working fine and now I can't print anything. I tried everything but getting rid of the settings, so hopefully that will work if I can ever find it :0

Quit Photoshop first. If you're on Windows, press the Windows Key + R to open the Run Dialog box, then enter %appdata%\Adobe\ - hit enter or press OK.
In this folder, find Adobe Photoshop 20xx and rename the folder to something like Adobe Photoshop 20xx.OLD - this way you can revert back if the fix doesn't work or you want your old settings back for some reason.
Start Photoshop again and it should hopefully print again.

Thanks, yes, that works but then you have to redo all prefernces and if you have a lot it is a royal PITA. I, like you have had to this many many times over the past couple of years or so. Adobe need to fix it, other programs do not have the issue.

You said that in a different thread, not in this one @philk8504450 .
It's a best practice to keep your comments about a single topic in one thread instead of scattering them among several.

@philk8504450 Have you tried to hold the spacebar when launching Print, to delete possibly corrupt print metadata in the file?

Yes, that's exactly what happens when people post in several threads 😉 You can't keep up with who said what and where.
Anyway - spacebar and reinstall driver are the standard go-tos. One of them usually does the trick.

Here we are again 🙂
Photoshop again is crashing when trying to print. I do have an Epson WF series printer. I have re-installed the Epson printer driver, uninstalled and re-installed Photoshop, reset preferences, and deleted the settings folder (not in that exact order). Any other fixes?

There is an incompatibility between the Epson printer, driver and Photoshop. Sometimes you can get around it for one or two prints by deleting the Settings folder. See some previous posts. The bottom line though is this will continue to be a problem from Photoshop, as long as the Epson printer driver is installed.
Microsoft has a general printer driver that you can install for the Epson, but it is not as functional as the Epson driver.
the only real solution is to uninstall the Epson printer and its drivers. Maybe buy an HP, that was my solution. Works perfectly now.

I see this, I think, entirely on older files. If I create a new file it prints fine. The work around then, is: instead of printing the file directly, save your file as a png and then open and print the new png. It's a workaround not a solution.

@JRT54 please note the png format is not intended for print, rather for screen use. Google is your friend on this subject. A flattened tiff or pSD is best, also many use Jpeg which is OK - IF final file size and crop is set.
A few notes on Jpeg:
Jpeg files have compression applied, changing resolution or cropping and re-saving enhances the compression artefacts - this means that Jpeg is only really suitable for final file delivery/transfer - with the Jpeg created only once size and resolution (and any sharpening) have been completed.
So,Jpeg is a far from ideal for editing and not OK for archiving or for any file that may need to be resaved, resized or cropped down the line.
Jpeg is the worst possible format if you want to keep high quality - you should always archive a copy of your original, ideally with any adjustment layers intact - if you work with layers.
Jpeg compression (at any setting*) really is "lossy”, irreversible and cumulative, so Jpegs should ONLY be used only for final delivery and only created from the original file format AFTER resizing & cropping to the FINAL size and crop.
To explain: any edits to size or crop, or even just re-saving a Jpeg file means further compression, potentially that’s very damaging.
The JPEG compression damage is not always immediately apparent, which is perhaps why it's still widely used - however, that compression will soon cause issues if you do further work and save again. That’s when you’ll see a Jpeg with some real issues.
*don’t imagine that selecting maximum quality for your Jpeg is preserving the original data, it’s still compressing a lot which discards information.
SO, don’t reuse Jpegs if any resizing or resaving is needed. Always go back to the PSD/ Tiff originals, Jpegs are essentially a 'use once and trash' file type.
I hope this helps

I have had the same crash issue with my Windows 11 desktop and my Epson ET-2650 printer. I was able to fix the problem by deleting all of the Epson apps and drivers , deleting the printer from my list of printers, and dIisconnecting the USB cable. I then reconnected the cable for the computer to recognize the printer. I allowed the computer to select the driver and re-establish the printer. I was very surprised when it didn't crash.

I assume that you computer selected the IPP driver?
Have you checked the printer options to see that it is less functional than the Epson driver?
Curious 😊,
thanks,

Just a thought, as the Adobe colour management seems a bit buggy at present with certain user created ICC profiles, has anyone tried changing the colour conversion engine from to Adobes to their operating systems one in the colour settings?

Hi GVSUK
I'm pleased it work for you because it is so frustrating.
I tried the link and all it does is take me to Epson WorkForce Pro WF-6090 printer, there are no drivers listed. I even searched for "universal printer driver" . Maybe it's because you are in the UK?

Perhaps try a thorough reset of Photoshop preferences?
(read this entire post before acting please)
Resetting restores Photoshop's internal preferences, which are saved when Photoshop closes.
If they become corrupt then various issues can occur.
Here’s some info on how to do that:
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html
Manually removing preferences files is the most complete method for restoring Photoshop to its default state:
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually
Manually removing preferences files is the most complete method for restoring Photoshop to its default state. This method ensures all preferences and any user presets which may be causing a problem are not loaded.
- Quit Photoshop.
- Navigate to Photoshop's Preferences folder.
macOS: Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
Windows: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
Note: The user Library folder is hidden by default on macOS. To access files in the hidden user Library folder, see How to access hidden user library files. - Drag the entire Adobe Photoshop [Version] Settings folder to the desktop or somewhere safe for a back-up of your settings
- Open Photoshop.
New preferences files will be created in their original location.
Note re macOS: The user Library folder is hidden by default.
To access files in the hidden user Library folder, see here for how to access hidden user library files.
https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/access-hidden-user-library-files.html
Unexpected behaviour may indicate damaged preferences. Restoring preferences to their default settings is a good idea when trying to troubleshoot unexpected behaviours in Photoshop. check out the video
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#reset_preferences
Learn how to access and modify Photoshop preferences and customise per your frequent workflows
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html
And here’s an earlier forum discussion as an aid to understanding
You may want to backup your settings and custom presets, brushes & actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences.
Here is general info about that: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#BackupPhotoshoppreferences
Before you reset your preferences
in case of future issues, I suggest you make a copy as Adobe may need one to check problematic references.
Quit Photoshop.
Go to Photoshop's Preferences folder
Preferences file locations: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/preference-file-names-locations-photoshop.html\
[on MacOS see: Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
Note for those on macOS: - be aware that the user Library folder is hidden by default on macOS.
https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/access-hidden-user-library-files.html
In the Finder, open the “Go” menu whilst holding down the Option (Alt) key.
Library will now appear in the list - below the current user's “home” directory. ]
Now you can drag the entire Adobe Photoshop [Version] Settings folder to the desktop or somewhere safe as a back-up of your settings.
Note for those on macOS:
Preference preservation is affected by macOS permissions,
you’ll need to allow Photoshop ‘Full Disk Access’ in your Mac OS Preferences/Security and Privacy
If that doesn't fix the issue:
Go to Preferences > Performance... and uncheck Multithreaded Compositing - and restart Photoshop.
Still hanging?
Go to Preferences > Performance... click Advanced Settings... and uncheck "GPU Compositing" - then restart Photoshop.
Do you still have problems?
It may even be time to reinstall Photoshop.
It’s recommended that you use the Adobe CC cleaner tool to remove all traces first.
(See above about preserving preferences though! It’s worth preserving them unless they are corrupted.)
https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
Uninstall Photoshop BUT make sure to choose the option “Yes, remove app preference”.
Once that process finishes, start the installation process and look into the “Advanced Options”. Uncheck “Import previous settings and preferences” and choose to “Remove old versions”.
I hope this helps
