Hi everyone,
For the past 10 days, I’ve been experiencing serious lag and freezing issues with Photoshop. It started suddenly and affects pretty much every action now, though it’s especially bad when using tools like the Healing Brush, Clone Stamp, and Patch Tool. After a while, even saving or exiting the program takes several minutes and can only be done via keyboard shortcuts.
I’ve tried rolling back to older Photoshop versions, but it didn’t help. I’m working on a 2019 iMac, which I know is getting older, but it still meets the system requirements and had been running Photoshop beautifully up until a couple of weeks ago.
So far, I’ve:
Cleared caches multiple times a day
Kept other apps/tabs closed
Increased Photoshop’s RAM usage to 85%
Followed all Adobe support recommendations I could find
Despite all this, the issue persists. Has anyone else experienced something similar or found a solution? Any help would be hugely appreciated!

How much RAM to you have and how much free hard drive space? I'm on a 2019 Macbook Pro with no problems- but my 1tb hard drive is 1/2 empty and I have 32GB RAM. Reset the preferences for starters.

Hi Melissa,
Thank you for your reply! My RAM is 48GB, with around 28GB currently available. I have about 730GB of free space on the hard drive.
I just tried resetting Photoshop preferences, but unfortunately, it hasn’t made much of a difference. I’ve also reinstalled all the Adobe apps, Lightroom, Photoshop, and Photoshop Beta.
At the moment, I’m trying to use the Remove Tool and I’m getting the error: “Could not complete your request because of a program error.” Sometimes I get that message, other times the tool works briefly, and other times Photoshop freezes completely. It all seems to happen at random, with no clear pattern.
Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it!
