Photoshop: PNGs exporting as JPGs when doing Export As

Community Beginner ,
May 13, 2022 May 13, 2022

Export>Export As:

When doing this for PNGs, all settings are for PNG (either transparent or non-transparent, at 1x and 2x), the file is RGB (multiple artboards), and it exports, but it saves the file as a JPG (with .jpg).

Hi @Sucha MB, we just tested this and are not seeing this issue here.

Could you share the file you are trying to export or screenshots of what you are seeing?

Thank you,

Be happy to, but this file is confidential, so how do I share w/out violating my NDA? It's a series of files, and is consistently happening throughout. The strange thing, is 1 and sometimes 2 artboards export as PNG, but the rest as JPGs. If I cannot share ('cos of NDA) I need to make time to modify this file (no identifiable graphics), and see if it's happening there, and if it is, I could share that.

Perhaps helpful info: I can successfully Export>Artboards to Files" as a PNG. This partically solves my prob (though it takes longer) for a PNG 1x, but doesn't for my PNG 2x. If you have a workaround so I can create the PNGs 2x, awesome — at least a fix for the time being.

Ready to share with you, but how do I attach a .zip file here? (I can see link and image, but what I have is a PSD file — which I think you'll need to help solve this issue, plus the assets I exported, and a screenshot of my Export As) Just in case, here's a link to the files mentioned. What's here is I modified one of the files that was giving me problems. I deleted the recognizable graphics to cover my NDA, saved, did the Export As, and still the problem w/majority of artboards not exporting as PNG, but did so as JPGs —except one artboard did export as a PNG. Thanks for your help in helping me solve this issue!

Just tried this too, on a Mac, latest version of PS, the latest version of MacOS, works as expected; I get a PNG.

Thanks! My Photoshop is also up-to-date. I am beginning to wonder if it is something within this particular series of files, where there is something within it, that is making this an issue. Even did a Save As to see if that would remedy, but no go.

Can you zip and upload (via something like Dropbox or similar) one of the problematic documents so others can test it?

One thing you could try, create a new file from scratch with the basic structure as the one(s) you are seeing this issue. Does the Export As work for this?

You mentioned below "artboards", is this file you are having the issue with, some work and others not? This might be the cause/issue, a new clean file should help us see.

Thank you,
