Photoshop sometimes crashes my PC in a sudden black-screen manner

Hi everyone, from time to time, Photoshop will just completely crash my computer. It happens at totally random times, usually when I work on bigger files, and it's just a sudden, instantaneous blackout. The screen goes black, all the sound stops, the OS is completely unresponsive (no cursor, ctrl+shift+esc does nothing, ctr+alt+del also does nothing) - and the only thing that I can do is long-press the power button to turn off the PC, and then re-start it and hope I have a decent recovery file.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Are there any known fixes?

App version: 25.0.0 20230906.r.37 b14e317 x64 (this has happened with several versions before)

Platform: Windows 11 Pro (22H2)

PC specs: Asus TUF A15 / AMD Ryzen 7 / 16GB RAM / Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060

P.S. This type of crash does not happen with any other software. I can really put a heavy load on my PC, as I also work with 3D and do a lot of rendering, sometimes I also play some quite demanding games as well, but never have I experienced a crash like this, where everything just goes black in a blip.

You have low amount of RAM. Another thing that is very important is scratch disc space. Can you post content of Help > System Info?

There is something going on with AMD Ryzen, and I wish I knew what it was. Ryzen systems have a disproportionally high share of problems, much more than there should be. And that has been the case for quite some time.

Unexplained crashing in the GPU is one of the common problems, and this is clearly the case here. Photoshop calls on advanced functions that few other applications do. If you get crash reports, post them here.

I've seen hints here and there that it may have something to do with BIOS incompatibilities. From what I hear, this is something the Adobe engineers are aware of and trying to figure out. I hope they're reading these threads and collecting information. My own systems are Intel-based, but it's frustrating to see all these threads and not be able to suggest anything to help.

I do know that some people have fixed it with BIOS updates. That's really all I can say.

Hvala @Bojan Živković , I've updated the drivers, and set the Nvidia card as the only GPU to be used by Photoshop. If you meant disabling it completely through Device Manager... wouldn't that be a sub-optimal solution, as the Nvidia GPU would be under a bigger load, since the other GPU is used to render Windows' GUI and whatnot? Also a bit of a hassle to do that every time I need to use Photoshop?

Also, for what it's worth, I've cleared more space on my drive and increased the amount of RAM Photoshop is allowed to use. I hope the problem doesn't return. Thank you once again!

@D Fosse - interesting... I don't have crash reports, unfortunately - there's no warning nor do I get the 'Send crash report to Adobe' popup, my PC just completely blacks out in an instant. I guess I'll just to a general update of anything and everything then, including BIOS. Thanks!

Oops, I missed the integrated GPU. Yes, Bojan is right. Dual GPUs may conflict, and yes, you should disable it completely. The conflict is the problem, not what they do.

Bojan's other points are valid, but they shouldn't cause crashes.

Note that you shouldn't set RAM usage too high! Don't go above 70%. That will strangle the rest of the system. The scratch disk is much more critical, that's Photoshop's main memory. RAM is more like a cache. Photoshop won't crash because of low RAM, it will just write to the scratch disk.
