Photoshop: The graphics processor is not compatible with and OpenCL not available

Hi everyone.

Since the last install, when opening Photoshop, I see the warning message above, telling me GPU in use is not compatible. It also tell me that OpenCL is not available, suggesting to upgrade my GPU driver. It's something that never happened before. We're talking about a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M for an ASUS N552VW. What's here happening?

Any suggestion?

If you deal with the first warning ("aggiornamento driver consigliato"), it MIGHT solve the second problem. So, you should update the driver.

Driver just updated (yesterday), but nothing changed.

@Alberto Crobe did you update the driver from Nvidia, also more than likely you have dual GPU's in that system, both the dedicated GTX GPU and an onboard GPU, can you post your Photoshop system info, in Photoshop go to Help > System Info, hit the copy button and and paste the entire thing into this thread.

Possibly, you could try reverting to an older version of Photoshop, which you can do from the Creative Cloud app

Disable the Intel GPU altogether. See Ged's link above for how. The biggest problem with it is not that the driver is unavailable; it's the fact that it's there at all. Dual GPUs will often conflict, it's a very common problem with laptops in general.

@Ged_Traynor next days I'll try to go back to older photoshop versions. @D Fosse Where did you see that there's no driver available? Is this info in that Info System report? Are you saying this about the OpenCL specifically? @kevin stohlmeyer i tried disabling the Intel GPU but nothing changed.

Could it be a hardware problem and, consequently, a software one?

You said so yourself. I'm talking about the integrated Intel GPU. I still believe that's the problem - again, not because there's no new driver, but because dual GPUs tend to conflict. You may need to disable it completely from your system, from Windows Device Manager. The Adobe Help link posted above has all the info.

@D Fosse @kevin stohlmeyer @Ged_Traynor nothing really changed since the last attempts. Nothing both disabling the Intel graphic card or searching for updates. It appears that there will be no other updates for this device. Geforce 960M is correctly updated (last update yesterday) but Open CL not detected. The only thing to do seems to go back to previous PS versions

Hi @Alberto Crobe since this thread was started there have been some mentions of bad NVIDIA drivers causing incompatibility with specific cards. You could try updating to 24.4.1 and then going to Preferences/Technology Preview and checking "Older GPU Mode (2016)" to see if that helps.

Hi. I have the same problem. What else have I changed: the performance priorities in the Nvidia control panel (and in the display settings), turned off and 960m and intel 530, reinstalled drivers, put another Photoshop version and even reinstalled Windows - all to no avail.
