When using the tool in an image and it becomes necessary to drag the tool off screen to keep the image in the work area, the tool locks up.

Hi @TomM77, sorry you are having issues with the polygonal tool. Testing here shows it working as it should without any issues.

When did you first notice this? What updates/changes have you made to your OS or plugins or...?  A couple things to try:

Go to Preferences > Performance... and uncheck Multithreaded Compositing - and restart Photoshop. Does the problem persist?

Go to Preferences > Performance... click Advanced Settings... and uncheck "GPU Compositing" - then restart Photoshop. Does the problem still occur?

Thank you,

I'm experiencing the same issue, regular freezes triggered by both the polygonal and magnetic lasso tools. It's just wrecking my workflow.

I'm also on Win10, have tried the Multithreaded Compositing and GPU Compositing options suggested, and actually reverted back to 23.3.0 when this first started thinking it could've been a version issue. No luck. As some have noted in other threads with similarly described issues, PS freezes rather than full-on crashes, so no report gets sent.

What do you mean exactly? When you drag onto the canvas?  When you drag onto the UI? When you drag outside the borders of your monitor?
Can't replicate any of these variations in 23.3.1 with all features on. It nicely scrolls my picture too.

Hi Tom! Dunno if you've found a solution since posting. I was experiencing similar troubles with the lasso tool, and the fix I discovered was resetting my preferences, as apparently the file where those are saved can become corrupted. The below "Reset Preferences On Quit" option can be found under Edit > Preferences > General. My saved workspace was preserved and I didn't really have to reset much, but I haven't run into the lasso tool freezes in the past week or so. Good luck!
