Problem: Photoshop won’t save feather radius setting (always resets to 0.1 px)

Hi everyone,

I’ve just downloaded the latest version of Photoshop, and I’ve run into a strange issue. Whenever I try to apply a feather to a selection, the “Feather Radius” is automatically set to 0.1 px with a blue outline around the input field.

I actually want to set it to 0.8 px (which shows a red outline in the input field), but every time I click OK, Photoshop resets it back to 0.1 px.

It doesn’t seem to matter what kind of selection tool I use — the setting just won’t stick.

Has anyone else experienced this issue, or knows how to fix it?
Is this a bug in the latest update, or is there maybe a new preference I need to change?

To help us get a better idea of what’s going on, could you share a few more details? Specifically, the exact version number of Photoshop you're using and your operating system.
As a first step, it might be helpful to try resetting your Photoshop preferences, just in case something got corrupted. Just a heads-up: this will reset things like brushes, workspaces, and other custom settings, so make sure to back those up first.

@Aleke  sure it happend with the new version update v 27.0 i would prefer not to reset my preferences. The problem is on Both mac and windows. my college has the same problem. 

if i then press enter it will reset to the 0,1

same here, in Version 2025, I could set Feather fom 0,1 to 0,9 (and all above) and now in Version 2026 - 0,1 is set. In the new version 2026, 0,1 now appears to be the default value and no longer the last user-selected value. I tried several settings above 1,0 with decimal values ​​(1,4 , 20,5 etc.) that works!

I see you are using the Shift F6 dialog box.  A value you set in that box is not reflected in the Options Bar.

I also noticed that Martis is using a coma rather than a full stop, and that you have used comas in your post.  I would expect that to throw up an error.

FWIIW, whatever value I se in the Shift F6 dialog is still there after restarting. That was tested with current release and beta versions.

that's a bit strange, PS itself puts a comma in the dialog box, I just tried putting a period instead of the comma then entering a value below 1 works! But what is displayed in the dialog box is a value with a comma!! I'm also pretty sure that I'm in the previous version 2025 I always worked with commas (otherwise I wouldn't have noticed this "event"!

selection tool groups “Rectangle, Ellipse and Lasso, Lasso-Polygon.” With the other selection tools (Magic Wand, Range Selection Tool, and Object Selection Tool), I can only set a “soft edge” using ‘Shift + F6,’ or am I overlooking something in the options bar?

I’m using the latest version of Photoshop, both the regular and the beta (27.0.1). I noticed that in the German version the comma is the standard decimal separator in the “Feather Radius” field. I also tried using a period, but unfortunately, that didn’t help.

The problem is that I cannot set a feather radius value of, for example, 0.8 (or 0,8) in the specific “Feather Selection” dialog window. When I enter the value and confirm, it always resets back to 0.1 px.

I can set the value easily in the top options bar, and the feathering works there, but for my workflow it needs to work in that separate dialog window,which it currently doesn’t.

I am experiencing exactly the same problem you have so well described. It did not happen with any of the previous versions of PS. I run the English version and it is exactly the same. There is now an issue with the comma (","), sometimes it accepts it (it is what the program shows by default!!!) and sometimes you need to enter a decimal point ("."). This was not an issue in previous versions of PS. Also, it constantly defaults to 0.1 radious. When opening the dialog, it may show the latest chosen radious, but as soon as you hit enter, it changes to 0.1.
I guess it is a bug but it is really annoying and also affecting my workflow.
They have also changed slightly the interface for choosing between Generative AI on and off in the erase tool. Before it worked much more smoother. They should also implement and shortcut to be able to switch between those since when working it is normal to be switching constantly. Having to select it with the mouse/pen makes it much slower.

Hi,
I use PS in English. This problem is completely new. 
I have attached a video. In it you can see how I open the Feather menu, and decimals are separated by a comma by default. I move from 0,1 to 0,7 with the up arrows, and when I hit enter, before the window closes it goes back to 0,1. Then I manually enter 0,5 and it does not seem to work even though the comma is what comes as default. When I finally enter 0.8 it works. In the past, and I have worked with PS over 20 years, I could either enter "," or "." it did not make a difference. Finaly in the video, I open the Feather menu once again and the last number I introduced appears there (0,8, with a comma) but when I hit enter it goes to 0,1.

You can apply 0px feather in the options bar when making your selection.

If using Modify > Feather  then the minimum value that can be inserted should be 0.1px. The behaviour looked slightly different in previous versions, I just checked v25, but attempting to enter zero resulted in an error message and a value of 0.1 being inserted. 
I tested on a Windows PC if you are seeing different on macOS please confirm whether you have carried out any problem steps so far, for example resetting preferences. These contain much more than user set preferences and are reset every time Photoshop closes. Any corruption can lead to strange behaviours, some of which only come to light following and update.

Thank you for sharing these details. I tried reproducing the issue on my end, but wasn’t able to. I could add a decimal value without any problems. Could you please confirm what exactly happens when you try to enter a decimal value? Do you see any error message?

Also, how does it behave when you assign a feather value from the top options/control bar? If possible, could you share a short video of your complete workflow? That would help us understand the issue more clearly.

You can fix this by unchecking the "enable modern user interface" option in the "Preferences/Technology Previews" menu (at least in the Spanish version).
