I have problem with cropped images. This problem occurs when I crop an image and want to use it in another file. Photoshop 'forgets' the cropped image when I move it or copy it to the another file and shows the original image. I only succeeded to get the cropped image on a contactsheet by using the function 'adding opened files'. I am new to Photoshop, but follow a course and even the teacher could not help me, so I suspect this is some kind of bug? Can someone help me? I use Window Home 10 (version 1903).

»I suspect this is some kind of bug?«
That seems aboudt as meaningful a suspicion as suspecting the carmaker is at fault when your car run out of gas …
Please provide meaningful description inclusing screenshots.
What were the Crop Tool’s settings in the Options Bar?
What exactly did you copy? Was a Selection involved?

Had you actually saved the cropped image?

Are you saving the your cropped images as image files and then using the saved cropped image files in your work. It sounds like you always using you original camera files in your work. Not the saved cropped images.
Contact Sheet create documents with your image laid out resized in a grid like layout. Contact sheet does not save files or crop images. Here you see Contact Sheet II has resized images into Contact Sheet documents. Nothing has been saved no cropping was done. Images were resized to fit onto the document.

Thank you JJMack. It was already clear to me how to make te contactsheet like you showed. I might indeed have missed a step with the cropped images. I will try some more before reposting. Thank you.

Please answer my questions and provide meaningful screenshots, in the ones you posted the Move Tool is selected, so the Crop Tool’s settings remain unclear.
But as kstohlmeyer1 surmised the likely issue seems to be that you are copying the Layer, not the pixels (as you would do if you used Select > All first), after cropping without deleting the cropped pixels.

I can’t recall in which exact version it was introduced but one can copy Layers in Photoshop now.
So if a Layer has off-canvas content and one copies the Layer that content is naturally included.
On the other hand if there is am active Selection one just copies the content within that Selection.

I think my issue is resolved for now. I reset the preferences because of another issue (not resolved) and I could move the cropped layer/section the same way as was showed during the lesson. Learning by trial and error! Thank you anyway for all your good suggestions.
