problem with text

Hello,

I am trying to type an abbreviation and the dot after the letter is placed in front of it. eg: B.P.M. becomes: .B.P.M

Is this a recent bug?

No, the issue seems to be that you or someone with access to your computer (edit: or the creator of the file etc.) chose certain type-related settings. 

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Paragraph with its dropdown nmenu, Options Bar, …) visible?
