Problems importing layers in the updated photoshop

I have imported layers and used layer adjustments and blend functions without problems in older versions of photoshop. I just updated to the 22.4.3 version and I am deeply disappointed. It simple does not work! It takes for hours to import layers or not at all. Not to mention the adjustment functions. This is not OK! I deeple regret my update now.....

You can downgrade Photoshop if that is what you want.

What have you done for all-purpose trouble-shooting so far? 

Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:
