Program Error when saving via actions

App version: 24.1.0

OS: Windows 10

File Types: JPG

This error occurs when trying to use an action to save a file that has not undergone any state changes since either: bring opened or its last save.

As an e-comm photo editor, I often have 4-10 images open, so I use a batched action to save them all at once. The base action is only two steps:
1. Flatten Image
2. Save

I know saving a file that has had no changes sounds odd, but often when I am making changes to only 7 of the 10 images I have open, it is easier and faster to just run the save action in a batch and save the untouched files again anyways. Both the batch and single instance versions of the action break and refuse to run once the error is enountered.

The expected result is the image saving regardless of its most recent save state.
Actual result is that it will not save.

The error is replicable with any JPG file and did not occur prior to 24.1

The error code from the user diagnostics plug-in is the following:

Code: -1

Hi @Cody25002753oef7 sorry for this issue. Have you rolled back to the last version your action worked, and is it working as expected then?

Thank you,

Cory

Hey @CoryShubert, I will be doing that at the end of my work day, trying for now to get what work done I can until then.

To add something else I noticed, when the files are in this state of having been saved or just opened, the "save" option from the file drop down is greyed out. I am unsure of if this was the case in previous versions, but it could be that my action is asking it do a function taht it now believes it cannot do.

The obvious preference would be for it to regain that functionality lol. I will update on the action functionality once I roll back. Thanks!

Another question @Cody25002753oef7, were these RAW files or were the files at any point going through ACR?

Thank you,

Cory

@CoryShubert I rolled back to 24.0.1 and the save functionality works as desired, so the issue is definitely unique to 24.1.0.

The very first file I opened allowed me to save right off the bat. Save is not an option in the dropdown menu, but it does still work if an action give the save command

Quick fix:

Record step to Make layer xcvzbretsyuin (for example)

Record step to delete layer xcvzbretsyuin

Flatten image

Save

Close

As shown on screenshot below. Hope this can help as workaround. You can also exclude delete layer but that needs and some testing for various situations which I haven't performed not have thought of them.

workaround can not save and close.jpg

Last hack didn't work for unfortunately.
I really don't understand why in each iteration of Photoshop there are all these bugs that affect workflows.
