Progress wasn't saved

Posting again because I got no responses before.

I had something that I've been working on on-and-off for a couple days. Decide to finish it up today. Spend the rest of the day doing so, takes about 6 hours. Up until today, everything has been saving just fine.

I just opened it up again to make a few finishing touches, and all my progress from the day is gone. 6 hours worth of work.

I know I saved it. I got a "PS will close automatically once saving is complete". I've gotten this message before without issue and nothing seemed out of the ordinary, and it's been with projects larger than this

But this time, reopening it, I'm back to where I was before. Needless to say I'm extremely pissed off. Is there any way to get my progress back?

If it helps at all, a few notes

-I'm on mac

-I save everything to Adobe Creative Cloud files

-I have autosave on. I also save manually every 20 minutes or so just in case. This is how it always is for me.

attached is a screenshot of my performance preferences, in case it can help anyone help me.

Hi @Gnomie319709347y31 Autosave is creating a temp file in case of a software crash - its not saving iterative versions to your document.

Do you have enough HD space available?

If you are on a Mac - do you have Time Machine backups you can restore from?

When  you say Creative Cloud - are you saving as a psdc or locally via sync?

What is the modification date/time of your document?

Hi Kevin. Made a wording mistake. Background save, not autosave. I definitely have enough HD space. Not sure how to use Time Machine, or how to find the modification time. Not sure about the Creative Cloud question either/what it means. I just save it as a PSD, to Creative Cloud Files when I use save as.

When you go to your file in the Creative Cloud files folder, get info on it and check the file modification date.

Does it match your expectations? Background save simply means PS saves your file without the progress bar preventing you from working. The 20 minute interval you chose if for autosave which neither help in this situation.
